good spells are comet azur, crystal torrent if you want a slightly lower dmg with better tracking comet azur, glintstone pebble, meteorite of astel, beyond that kinda your own choice
https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Prince+of+Death%27s+Staff
The best staff of the game with a stackable 10% damage for death magic from the main game....Rings of Spectral rings and Putrescent sorceries despite being from the death school will get no buff from the staff, despite this Rings of Spectral light got buffed recently and even before it was a awesome spell.
Take a look to Ancient Death rancors damage in this NG+max Bayle kill

Notice the insane range? HP and poise damage? Become a Death mage RIGHT NOW (if you have enough FAI and INT).
You can use the God tier Death Poker as weapon or one of the new Prince of Death themed Spirit Blade or Glaive new from the expansion.
Good but extremly slow, it only outperforms anything when you are able to chain cast 4. Keeping traveling speed, range, accuracy and raw damage Ancient Death rancors outperforms EVERYTHING with no need to build any negative status (other than magic damage resistance debuff applied via Ranni Darkmoon or Gideon mace Knowledge above all).
Well...Lets consider it a mid RL character gear running NG+, if you just play without going above NG0 sure.....There is no way to make a low RL character become proficient with death magic or anything requiring heavy investments in more than two stats. Now in the hands of someone who actually meet the gear requirement we are talking about best in slot gear!.

Pretty common and there is a Burger King student wearing and dropping it near a grace, in the Academy.

This is a god tier weapon and it will be useful once you upload it forever (even the expansion).
Both suggestions require little STR and DEX and if you pick the astrologist as starting archetype you will need to pump DEX just a bit. This will increase your casting speed a "bit".
Staves just go and get yourself a

To replace it later with Rennala or Lusat staves. DO NOT SELL IT, still will boost gravity magic even when you replace it (just use the new staff to cast while you have meteorite staff in your off-hand).
Still pretty cool though.
With a level 160 Vagabond my stats are (at least off the top of my head, can't remember 1:1)
Vig 60
Mnd 20
End 30
Str 16
Dex 13-18 <= this is the part I can't remember atm
Int 80
Faith 9
Arc 8
Slapping Carian Sovereignty on a Greatsword is crucial since it gives you hyper armor as you charge, but you still need the poise to tank a few meaty hits.
Also, the Finger Sorcery spells are pretty damn good. Glintstone Nails actually does a lot of poise damage and Cherishing Fingers makes most ranged attacks, be they magic, physical or incantation bounce off makes a lot of ranged fights rather simple, provided you time it right.
Thank you Doctor. I will call you the doctor now for your white beard! When it comes to stats do you think I should level vigor fast for bosses like radahn or spread them evenly?
Ty
You can off-hand it while continuing to use another in your casting hand.
As a caster you should learn how to keep your distance from trouble and have light roll (this helps a lot) but VIG will always be a priority. And im suggesting this with the real Radhan in mind! I say 60 VIG is pretty much mandatory for Mogh and beyond.
Also dont overstuff yourself with talismans increasing damage taken in exchange of a bit more damage/stats.....You dont want this to happen!

Just make sure you can take one or two hits before croaking!
