A co-op partner just dropped 99 Lord Runes for me randomly
Serious question - is this something I'm going to get in trouble/banned for? I appreciate the generosity but not if it means I get nuked from multiplayer.

Now, where would somebody legitimately get 99 Lord Runes such that they would be willing to dump them on the ground for a stranger?

Personally, I would just walk away and leave them be.

We do that on playstation all the time. I have been doing it for 13 years so far and I never got a ban for it. Is a good way to level your characters until the level you want. I never got in trouble, or any of my friends.

Nothing will happen to you. And if something should happen i promise to buy you a new copy of elden ring on another account lmao

Probably something someone used to cheat into their game and is just spreading the wealth... Personally, runes are so incredibly easy to come by, there is just never a need for something like that. Just simply playing the game (never mind coop) you end up getting more than you could ever need to spend.

Theres no risk of picking up a drop as long as it isn't a cut content item labled with [ERROR] in the name

NEVER take candy from strangers in the first place. that's how bad ♥♥♥♥ happens. it sounds like you dodged a bullet in this case, but going forward, don't pick up random items from strangers unless you want your save file obliterated

edit: spelling is hard

Now thats just wrong. Happened in ds3 but thats an old story and wont easily happen in elden. Or at least, have you heard of that happen in this game? I havent.

yes, many times. it's common sense, honestly. it's better to be safe than sorry. it sucks, but all it takes is one bad egg to unalive your progress, so it's best not to engage at all.

if there's items you need, there's plenty of discords and social groups that're more than happy to oblige, but random items from people who you're randomly summoned by can be detrimental and are best avoided. it was the same for DS3.

Nothing will happen, you can use all of them if you want too. The only way you get banned is by picking up broke weapons like said above or using cheats/trainer to specifically increase your level/stats/runes without using an actual in game item.

There is only one banned item in Elden Ring that could cause the user to be soft-banned, and that is an underwear, or more specifically an item that is Fia's panties, and it is called "Deathbed Smalls". This item was actually created by Fromsoftware to decide to ban it later, which is quite absurd in my opinion. But that's all.

I don't know of any other reasons for a possible ban and I know that duplicating items isn't one of them. Fromsoftware isn't going to look in your inventory to see if you have 1 or 99 of the same type of thing. And I honestly don't think they care. Otherwise they wouldn't have created a 600 storage capacity for runes. They know that users duplicate these items and they're fine with it.

Duped items, rune items, everything that u can (or theoretically could) have in your inventory will not get you banned. Even the infamous Smalls won't since as of last patches you will not even be able to pick them up. You risk a ban if you:
Use 3rd party software to alter your save, EVEN if you add yourself legit items
Use 3rd party software when in game (go online with mods)

Everything else is ok. I personally sometimes offer presents to good hosts or arena duelists.

I didn't know that item could no longer be picked up.
A shame. For a completionist like me, not having an item triggers my OCD.
Even if it is a prohibited item.
