Dear Developers, could HOLY WEAPONS pls. KILL UNDEAD.... like in ALL YOUR OTHER GAMES?
Dear Developers,

Why don't HOLY WEAPONS not kill UNDEAD ENEMIES? I waited now for serval Patches since this is something you likely MISSED! I need to use another WEAPON, "make it HOLY" to kill UNDEAD Enemies but I can not use a HOLY WEAPON! THIS MAKES NO SENSE...

Example: Cipher Pata DOES NOT KILL UNDEAD Enemies....

'Holy' damage can mean a wide variety of things lore-wise in Elden Ring. To knock out Those Who Live In Death without the extra hit, you need one of the Golden Order fundamentalism-themed attacks, since the Golden Order are the only ones directly opposed to the undead. Golden Epitaph, the Litany of Proper Death incantation, the Sacred Blade AoW, and so on. Most undead are just weak to Holy damage even if it's not a variety that prevents them from reviving though.

Also the developers never read these forums.

I do find it weird how you can only perma kill the undead with particular holy buffs and not holy grease, holy water, or simply having your weapon set to sacred affinity.

But it's even weirder that when you do kill them with something like Sacred Blade, it doesn't unlock the target right away.

It's not a bug, the way holy and "sacred" damage were split was intentional. You will notice all the weapons and incantations and ashes of war that can prevent undead from reviving follow a pattern consistent with the lore surrounding the golden order and "ones who live in death".

By the way, it isn't a big deal. If you just hit the glowing skeleton bones on the ground, that prevents them from reviving too.

Holy water does kill them permanently. I agree it's weird and annoying that you stay locked to the target for so long, holy water has the same issue.

Ashes of War: Sacred Blade

Located around the Limgrave zone.

My Twinblade loves it, Undeads HATE it.

You're welcome.

Yeah, it is kinda weird that the undead instalkill ability is not directly linked to Holy Damage, but only to specified skills and moves. There's probably a deep lore explanation for why is that. Until then... Sacred Blade weapon art is the way to go. Can be applied to most melee armaments, even flails.

this will happen only when intelligence/sorcery builds have another element than magic to hit things

Holy infusion won't kill undead but will do much higher damage to them, pure holy damage such as sacred blade or holy incantations will disintegrate skeletons upon death, they won't respawn.
