Godfrey = Odysseus?
Random thought: Has anyone else considered the possibility that Godfrey may be inspired by the character Odysseus from Homer's The Odyssey? I mean he's a badass mofo who returns home to his wife Marika, just as Odysseus returned home to his wife Penelope. But whereas Odysseus slaughtered the suitors intent on marrying his wife during his long absence, Godfrey wants to slaughter YOU!

In Elden Ring, Serosh the lion seems latched onto Godfrey to constrain his natural rage. In a similar vein, there were instances in The Odyssey where it was made obvious that despite Odysseus's forthright manner, he had a big chip on his shoulder. Take for example the time where Odysseus persistently taunted Polyphemus the cyclops as he and his men made their escape by boat - although this taunting incited the cyclops to hurl boulders at them and thus needlessly endangered his men, Odysseus just couldn't constrain himself. Also consider how Odysseus refused to accept the surrender of the suitors upon his return home.

Not really, imo.
The bulk of inspiration for Elden Ring comes from "The Song of the Nibelung" (the epic poems from 1200, not the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ Wagner version), with a spruce from other ancient myths from northern Europe (Mabinogion for example).
Heck, we could argue Radahn from the base game is a functional expy of Sigfried, in a sense.
In the same way, I find Godfrey more closely related to Beowulf, than Odysseus: he is the ambitious warrior with no manners sent away from his court to find fame and fortune. Expert monster slayer and valiant warrior, but with not much going on between his ears.
Odysseus is a character defined by how much of a clever bastard he is, and a decent archer, but he never was the strongest fighter.
Godfrey is quite a brawn over brain character instead.
