There aren't enough item descriptions in the world to explain why Godwyn having his soul killed somehow resulted in him becoming a magical death-mermaid with roots duplicating his big, melty nose all over the place.
I take the randomness of it as being creative...gaming stories nowadays usually have themes and ideas that have already been told 100 times and hence they don't "feel" as random
