The Weight of Armor
Looking at this from an RPG perspective with light, medium, and heavy armor. There are many "light" sets where the weight seems too high for what the pieces are. Especially when you compare them to previous games made by FromSoftware.

Armors from previous games had low weights for the light sets, this is what I wanted for Elden Ring. A lot of light sets for Elden Ring just aren't light at all.

Edited the discussion:
The assumption about the weight was for arguments sake. The focus became way too much on the "reality" and how I shouldn't use real world weights for fictional things. It was just a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ example, it wasn't the focus. I was trying to explain why the armor pieces I named shouldn't weigh the amount they do.

They're using Arbitrary Video Game Weight Units that have no correspondence to reality.

Elden Ring measures weight in coins, like D&D back in the 80s ^^

Let's say for argument's sake that the weight units are arbitrary. That doesn't change that the Bandit Mask weighs the same as a ******* sword.

I'm using the Bandit Mask just as an example. Many armors, and weapons follow this silly logic.

The Golden Order Greatsword is, by lore, made of light and yet weighs 10. Pounds, kilograms, tons, hardly matters what because light is as close to weightless as you can get.

This tells me that weight is an arbitrary metric with no logical basis. Trying to analyze any kind of reasoning behind it is therefore futile.

It's not about being realistic especially when it comes to this.

Instead of weight, look at it as volume of mass?
The bigger they are, the likelihood they are heavier too?

There are too many examples where this can't be the case.

The "Bandit Mask" weighs 3.0, this is the same weight as a brick

There is an actual brick in the game and it weighs 12.5 so clearly the bandit mask weighing 3 is NOT equal to a brick. 😌

:steamfacepalm: We both know that brick is a little bigger than your average brick.

How dare you judge the physics of their world of gods, lasers, and undead as silly and relevant to ours!

I expect your next assertion would be from your pops about how you confirmed horses and tornadoes do not mix or that the bonfire reincarnation system is inaccurate.

The 'weight' stat is obviously the emotional weight that the items carry for the Tarnished. It's just coincidental that the Tarnished tends to have the most unresolved ennui and angst about plate armor and giant hammers.

??? Things in the game have weight, some things have more weight than others. They have weight classes such as light, medium, and heavy armor. The devs keep this logic, however there are gaps in this selfsame logic that doesn't make sense. It's either lazy, or a blunder.

You try to make my assertion sound silly by talking about the fictional parts of the game. You have no point.

I like your idea here. This would make the most sense.

Woosh~

I was obviously being sarcastic and joking with some light-hearted humor while also making a point.

You have no idea what these items are made of. Don't assume stuff that looks like cloth or metals is made from the same type of compositions as stuff in our world. Do not assume they work by the same laws of physics, either. I mean, i get the logical approach (however pointless your thread is over a video game balancing logic), however, realistically speaking you would still be wrong because you're assuming they function identically to our reality. This is too narrow scope thinking, no offense.

Heck, for all we know there could be things like karma, remnant soul, magical energies, or other concepts influencing the weight even.

Sadly I believe this is the most likely :bloodstain2:. I would like to have a closer light armor class like in Dark Souls 1, but unless the devs decide to update the weights, this won't be possible. The Thief Mask in Dark Souls 1 is even larger than the "Black Hood" yet only weighs 1.2 which makes more sense.
