Base Sorcery > DLC Sorcery?
I'm up to Messmer and finishing up some side quests before I tackle him. I am *STILL* using dual Staffs of Loss with Night Comet to wreck everything in PvE. The new spells all look cool but nothing else even remotely comes close to the Dmg/efficiency of Night Comet so far. NC is low cost, quick cast, can be charged, good range, pierces, gets double the bonus from dual Loss, and nothing attempts to dodge it. All this adds up to a spell that can be spammed to your hearts content and you can count on it landing. I've first attempted most of the bosses this way and the ones I haven't only took a few tries to get dodges for all the crazy gimmicky moves the DLC throws at you.

Does this change? Is there a point in using anything else? I'm bored of the same set-up I had in the base game but don't want to give up that "min/max" feeling I've achieved.

Impenetrable Thorns that you get in DLC is by far the strongest spell in the game.
Unfortunately its the only Spell that is better than base game Spells

you get the spell just before Messmer.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aw3590TtO4s

its far more powerfull than anything in base game or DLC

I did some testing with DLC spells and Glintstone Nails is also pretty decent but not really better than main game spells. It has good Stance breaking and okay damage with many ways to buff.

Golden Vow 15%
Maternal Staff 15%
Finger Robe 8%
Magic Scorpion Charm 12%
Godfrey Icon 15% on fully charged attacks
Magic Tear + 20%

When i compared it my setup did ~ 2200 damage with a fully charged Glintstone Nails and 1800 with night comet.
But you can spam NIght comet much faster so the DPS is a lot higher with NIght Comet.

Also Spiral Spell from base game is pretty sick vs some opponents.
For example vs Divine Lion i just spammed 4 of it without charging super quick and it did overall
5600damage >-<

No DLC spell except Impenetrable Thorns can do that

Except for impenetrable thorns because it's literally broken. Though some of the new Holy incants are pretty sweet compared to the old ones.

Fleeting Microcosm and Impenetrable Thorns are fantastic.

For Incantations, we have Light of Miquella (situationally very powerful), Knight's Lightning Spear (my new favorite spell in the game), and Multilayered Ring of Light (can be set up to do some of the best damage in the game). And then Fire Serpent is arguably the best fire spell in the game now, save for Black Flame.

How is fire serpent the best fire spell in the game? it has the cost and damage of a starting level spell?

It's homing, which solves the major issue a lot of fireball spells have, which is the weird arc they get thrown in. It's also homing in such a way that it usually hits the head, which is a very nice bonus. The damage isn't overwhelming, but it can be charged (which can activate Godfrey's Talisman), and it's also good for its cost.

Spent the day grabbing a lot of the new Sorc spells and completing quests. Thorns is really "broken" and meant to be the new I win button for Casters so I'm not impressed there.

I really wanted Microcosm, Grav Missile, and Blades of Stone to be awesome and if the game was based around fighting larger groups these spells would rock. Elden Ring isn't about fighting groups most of the time so I just don't have a need to cast these super big amazing spells except for ♥♥♥♥♥ and giggles sometimes. The Nail spells require no target, have great tracking, but are slower to cast, deal less dmg, and can still be dodged. The other spells are gimicky and not really worth a mention in PvE.

Still using Night Comet as my general use kill everything spell lol.

You forgot Pest Spears.

And if we're allowed to include support spells, heal from afar.

This DLC was a feast for us incantation users.

People are amazed with Fleeting Microcosm and yet this spell used alone got almost Tibia's Summons accuracy (you have to free aim it on moving target)

There are Glintstone Nails and Glintblade Trio doing same or slightly more damage over basic Glintstone Nail and Magic Glintblade... Sure upgraded version do more poise damage but then there is Knight's Lightning Spear that upgrades Lightning Spear in both damage and poise damage...

Rellana's Twin Moons can be interrupted even by slime attack...

Mantle of Thorns - hahaha...

There are DLC Incantations worth eqquiping, DLC Sorceries are not (excluding Impenetrable Thorns but they will be "fixed")

Microcosm and Gravity well are fun as a combo, Messmer's orb is fine in pvp, Rings of ghost light are good with bird helm on. Mantle of thorns is golden on low-level invasions with briar set (srsly try it out). Thorns are straight up broken. Knight's lightning spear is RADS

In terms of shooting blue projectiles there is nothing better than Night Comet. The only DLC sorceries I consistently use are Gravitational Missile and Rellana's Twin Moons, but mostly because they look cool.

Blades of Stone is not bad but it has some seriously tracking problem.

Then there are those for stance breaking, Nails and Glinttrio. Unfortunately I usually forego spells and two hand or dual wield when fighting bosses so they are of no use to me. And you are not going for stance breaking either.

This.

Everyone else going about with their fancy bleed builds, and me just wandering the lands between dual-wielding Staff of Loss and shooting invisible blue projectiles at everything.

This is 100% me. I've tried so hard to find ANY other Sorcery build that matches Night Comet and nothing even comes close. I only cast other spells because I'm bored and feel like watching the pretty colors go boom on my screen.

If I want something dead or I'm fighting a boss I use Night Comet 100% of the time.

This is correct this spell is so strong it's going to get patched.

Then once you're through the stuff that will obviously get patched.

You still have microcosm and gravity bolt.

When Carian Slicer exists, most DLC sorceries are kinda meh.

late reply but, it is homing yes but its range is quite short, ive never noticed it hitting the head, but maybe its because I havent use it against humanoids that much, and while it can be charged the charge speed is atrocious, and about good for the cost? yes sure as much as a black flame, flame sling, lightning spear, stone of gurranq, etc.
