The ancient dragon of Altus

Laneaux or something. Is beating him a requisite to move deeper into Altus? Isn't there some secret passage or a place where you can move past him? I've tried running past him as I do with other dragons but this one is too tough.
Note: Beating him is absolutely out of the question. Won't happen in this lifetime.

You do not need to beat him. I suggest just baiting him down a little then running ahead. He will also despawn and teleport away once you do certain amount of dmg (potentially a certain amount of time as well may cause this, though I'm not sure)

You do get a pretty cool incantation if you beat it.

Erm, I already managed to slip past him but what is this about a lift? Not the one that brought me in?

Lannseax appears in two places in Altus, the first is at the top of the ruin-Strewn precipice just beyond Magma Wyrm Makar. She cannot be killed there, but will fly off at 70%-ish health. Any damage you do during that encounter is translated into damage during the second encounter, and that encounter is where you can kill her if you want.

There's nothing stopping you from hopping on Torrent and riding past her. Alternatively, if you've found both halves of the Dectus Medallion you can activate the elevator at the end of the road past the Academy and bypass her entirely.
