Question about str,dex and quality
Hi so i have this question
Having 60 points into str and using a heavy weapon / having 60 points into dex and using keen weapon
Is the same as
Having 30 points into str and 30 points into dex and using a quality weapon?

Meaning the damage output will be the same? Assuming base scaling for dex and str is the same.
Thanks

Depends.

Just because you see a weapon with a B rating due to one affinity or inherent scaling doens't mean the other affinity with B is exactly the same or another weapon identical. There is actually a hidden -/+ (think B+, B, B- with B- being obviously the weakest).

Further, the scaling depends on the inherent base AR of the weapon thus one weapon with higher AR from, say... dex, will scale higher than another weapon with less AR that is Dex with the exact same weapon grade scaling.

If you took say... a katana and it has A+ Keen scaling and then you pick a quality infusion if that is A+ Str and A+ Dex it is likely going to be the same when 1h., however if one was A+ Str and the Dex was B+ then it will not be exactly as good.

Further, Str gets the 1.5x multiplier (caps at 66 2h cause x1.5 = 99 stat cap) so this should be factored too if you will be 2h weapon.

If you want try this build calculator. In my tests I've found it to be (at least so far) totally accurate.

Example:

Uchigatana +25 (1h only)

Note: The below each one results in RL56 for consitency.

Str 60 | Dex 15 (min req) | Affinity: Quality = 473 AR

Str 15 | Dex 60 (min req) | Affinity: Quality = 473 AR (Note: did 15 str to keep level investment identical)

Str 38 | Dex 37 | Affinity: Quality = 491 AR

Str 37 | Dex 38 | Affinity: Quality = 491 AR

As you can see the quality split evenly is better than going pure with Affinity: Quality, though only slightly. That said, odds are most would not go pure with a Affinity: Quality to begin with. However, you can also see the scaling is identical between the two.

Now for Heavy and Keen...

Str 60 | Dex 15 (min req) | Affinity: Quality = 535 AR (not even 2h...)

Str 15 | Dex 60 (min req) | Affinity: Quality = 542 AR (Note: did 15 str to keep level investment identical)

As you can see quality has slightly worse scaling from the two Bs compared to Keen has E (Str) | A (Dex) and Heavy has A (Str) | - (Dex)

It is not really that straightforward. You may think that 60 STR is equal to 30 Str + 30 Dex so they should be on par, but that is not the case.
The correct way to look at this is to spot the difference in quality.
The Pure STR build will outdamage, but his weapon will be slower. The Quality build will do less damage but will have access to faster weapons due to the Dex points. The STR build will have more raw damage but the quality build will have higher DPS damage.

So answer your question simply, quality will always be outperformed by heavy and keen with the respective stats.

Having 16-20 dexterity and 54-80 str is the new "quality" build in the terms that you can use the largest amount of weapons to the greatest abilities.

Quality is now more so for over leveled players.

The x1.5 multipler goes for both dex and str while twohanding a weapon or only str?

you will need a LOT of stat investment for quality. Pure str or dex will outshine unless you go for a level beyond average if we take into account you also level vigor and endurance.
This even goes for weapons with high quality scaling. You can check the numbers in this calculator:

only str
Easiest way to find out... go repec your character and adjust your stats with the weapon equiped. Watch the AR values changes and decide for yourself which is better. Number don't lie.
