Cannot crit? Is it possible to test?
Okay I am in a VERY weird spot. After completing the DLC Run twice I've decided to go for a parry run.

No problem with parries, but I legit cannot crit. None of the first godrik enemies can be crit or backstabbed by me, after breaking stance I just R1 them all the time. Morgit after 2 parries was just R1 hits too. Even the freaking octopussies on the beach, golden glow, but just R1s.

Obviously over my playthrough I've stance broken and critted enemies numerous times. It worked perfectly. What the hell is wrong, what can be wrong?

Are those guys just not crittable? Is there a respawning enemy early that can be parried and guaranteed to be crit, where I can test it? It is so frustrating, I have never ever had that happen but it's like 50th parry in a row that does not result in a crit, it's insane.

P/s using the very standard buckler/misericorde

without video we can say nothing.

for a crit you need to stand directly in front or behind the enemy
if you are at an angle or 10cm too far away or 1 second too late it wont work

is there an enemy somewhere early on that is 100% crittable where I can test it? Godrik soldiers, or the guys near merchants on the beach?

having watched that video each of those should have been crits. Maybe you need to pause a half second longer after getting in their face before striking? Or verify file integrity.

Yeah, wait a brief second after they fall, and make sure you’re holding forward.

I tried holding forward and not holding forward, tried to wait, but... Do i really have to wait when... backstabbing a non-agressive guy?

Yeah thats bugged. I'd suggest make a new bandit character and test with that, see if the bug is tied to your character or if its gamewide

are you sure you're pressing the right button? you have to press the light attack button in order to crit, which should be R1, but in the videos you've sent you appear to be using heavy attacks instead. the light attack for the misericorde should be a horizontal slice, so whichever button it is that does that should be the button you use to crit.

Ive noticed this with a couple of DLC bosses...was RIGHT in front of them and just swung..actually just took out Messmer where this happened

I get that you're problem is persistent but I do think somethings bugged.

nah, the heavy attacks with that weapon are totally diffent, they are swipe attacks, not poke attacks. also, yeah, I did crits hundreds of times over my playthroughs, not like I would suddenly forget how to do them after 1000 hours of playtime :D

That is the R2 heavy attack is it not, the hit makes it hard to see properly but it makes the swooshing sound instead of the swipe sound

Okay you were right, I guess it was a practical joke pulled on me or I dunno, indeed it was set differently, it works now that I remapped the buttons corectly, thank you!

You are wrong
Not in an opinionated way
Not in an argumentative way
And not in any kind of discussion
You are wrong, straight up
