it didnt work well
that being said it's absolutely viable, very good in fact, you just have to learn when you can and cannot parry, that's actually a tedious process of failing and learning (unless you look it up)
It is definitely viable, but really hard, its a high risk, high reward mechanic after all
As for me, I prefer greatshields since my parry game is weak.
As an example, Crucible Knights become complete and utter jokes if you just parry them and jump their tail and stomp attacks.
I'm not joking, give it a try.
The same can be said for Bell Bearing Hunters, but they require much more skill given they have a larger moveset and require two parries to riposte.
There's a huge list of things across the whole game, but, basically, you can parry the ♥♥♥♥ out of the game if you take the time to learn it.
Harder enemies can be easier to parry though and, not gonna lie, I can parry a Crucible Knight into next week, but a regular ass soldier makes my parry attempts look like I just started playing video games that morning.
I'd rather avoid the forced animation critical hits for thematic reasons, as I actually play a mage lol. But I noticed that if you use Carian Piercer after a succesful parry, it knocks them down, even if it otherwise wouldn't. That in turn gives you a few free hits with the Carian Slicer.
However, this is only true for some monsters. Refering to Fleshy Delight's post, it works against the Crucible Knight, but not against the BB Hunter, sadly.
In Elden Ring its a mixed bag.
vs some bosses its an equally strong alternative to playing normal.
Margit
Godskin Noble
Crucible Knight + Missbegotten Radahn pre -festival fight
Draconic Tree Sentinel
Loretta, Knight of the Haligtree
Malenia
Rellana
Radahn DLC ( probably only boss where parrying is easier than not parrying)
However its actually not that great since ER Parry is not truly bound to the visuals on the screen but to artificial timings that you have to learn
It's like this always in Fighting Games too, artifical frames that you just need to learn by trial and error.
Is there a game with parry mechanic actually tied to visuals? Because that sounds epic.
2. Guard counter was made for paste-eaters like me who would rather hold a button and unga bunga back.
DDR? What else does that mean but the East Germany?
