ELDEN RING

They should get rid of Dodge Rolling and I-frames.
For their next game at least.

They would have to find different ways to balance combat if nothing you did made you invincible (Would also make a bit more sense, I can't help but find it absurd dodge rolling through dragon fire protects you from it).

I mean, if a person wearing full plate armor tried to roll in it......I wonder how many of their limbs would still remain unbroken by the time they finished.

But yes, I think the whole "Dodge rolling makes you invincible" should be replaced with more realistic dodging or guarding. Like if you are a light character, you could leap to either side or backwards to dodge (actually physically dodge) attacks.

And once again I post this recent video that showcases how rolling is not as good as people think in a range of situations in Elden Ring: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDhoDThUIHc
This I'd a good vid vamirez. I've noticed that jumping avoids attacks way more often than I initially thought.
I think adding guns to Elden Ring 2 would be awesome, you can keep dodges in but no one can dodge a bullet

I'd rather have a bloodborne 2 for the guns.
Agree with this. I feel like at this point they have pretty much reached the limit of boss design they can do with the I-Frame dodge roll system. But I did not enjoy the forced parry system of Sekiro either. I would prefer a game with directional dodging/blocking but where the enemies are not so hyper fast you can barely react like Sekiro. That would require actual effort on Fromsoft's part though to make good hitboxes, and we know how that goes.
you want a positional defence system with proper blocks and dodges? go play sifu, if you want a swordfighting thing with the same you're out of luck for now, other than going to do swordfighting IRL

Well Mount, and Blade has directional blocking swordfighting. But that's obviously wildly different than a Fromsoft game. From already experimented a bit in Sekiro whether you had to either dodge a certain direction or jump over some of the attacks that can't be parried. My problem was they made them too fast. I remember on boss fights that had both types of unblockables it just felt like a coin toss. I just jumped every time, and hoped for the best.

100%. It's been a lazy crutch for too long.

The other day I cornered a player in PvP and he literally spammed light roll in the corner for about 20 seconds. Forgot I was playing ER.

And then I had to laugh when I literally rolled through Commander Gaius lol.
learn how to roll catch....
This has been done! ( Bleak Faith Forsaken) Souls like w no iframe. Its about spacing. Jump/ crouch( no follow up attack, pure evasive) or movement to escape. Closest to iframe was blocking.

Souls players didnt like it, they wanted the iframes back. Eventually they inserted iframes( its tied to a talisman and can be unequipped so no iframe is still possible).

You can check it if interested. It has a rough start, but its kept getting patches and improving.

Play Sekiro then
Exactly! If I wanted to play Sekiro for this aspect, I would.

i-frames are the heart and soul of the combat but i agree that a better dodge animation is in order.

That's what I am saying. In their next game, they "SHOULDNT" be the heart and sole of the combat. They should balance combat around a system where you are always at risk, and never invincible. Where positioning and tactics are more important than how well you can time that roll button press while you are right up against the enemy.

All that will do is make 1 of these two classes being the best.

1: Ranged
2: Biggest shield to block all incoming damage to then poke at the boss.

All other classes would be useless to play. Because being close to a boss without being able to avoid damage from wide swing? Yeah you're not playing a light class.

UNLESS you literally get 3 times the run speed over the others or high jump that literally jumps over the boss.

You'd have to tone down the bosses too. There is no way the current bosses in Elden Ring would work without the i-frames in dodges.
They literally did this for Sekiro and it was amazing.

Overhead strike? Sidestep.
Low sweep? Jump.
AOE? Sprint away.
Everything else? DEFLECT.

No i-frames. No equip weight. Just crisp movements and the best hitboxes Fromsoft has ever made.

I enjoyed it much more with the frames on tbh
This whole argument of "it's not realistic" is silly. Look at the weapons in the game. Look at the MAGIC. Look at the horse that can double jump. Look at the enemies with far too many hands, heads, and holes to exist. "Gimme realistic dodging" is a wild argument to try and make.

If dodging isn't fun to you that's fine, but "realistic" dodging is not the solution.
