Yeah if the next game has spirit summons I'll just skip
Midra is honestly a spectacle, and his fair telegraphs make him seem like a classic souls boss

But trying to learn him solo just makes health flasks pointless, either I dodge two or three combos to heal and keep learning, or I try to outright no-hit the boss

Since the game has buffs for the Mimic included in the DLC I might as well use it, and that way yeah the difficulty goes down to Dark Souls levels, but the satisfaction of basically roflstomping Midra because there's two of me is just not there, instead I could be banging my head in Frenzy and maybe in 2 hours feel accomplished.

Divine Dancing Lion felt kinda ass since the camera was his 4th element, but man that fight at least felt like an old boss where healing wasn't outright pointless.

Maybe Midra was supposed to be the "Orphan of Kos" of this game? But the Spirit Summons just dunk that idea to the ground.

People acting like mimic tear is the only summon, and/or they all magically start at +10.
Well they all pull aggro from you, which will always make bosses significantly easier no matter what the summon actually does, and this discussion is talking about the DLC so you really should have them at max level by that point.
nah. I.. in the maybe 3% of fights that i remember summons are a thing use latenna (fave summon) her damage is minimal but over a fight its like im wearing an extra damage talisman she just snipes from afar while i dance with the boss :)
if she gets agro you really must be afk her damage sucks... and shes also instantly dead if she gets agro lol

My argument since release about spirit ashes still stands: I didn't buy the game to watch it play against itself.
Same thing to a lesser extend with doing bosses (that I haven't done already) in co-op: I didn't buy the game to watch other players beat it for me.

As for Midra, I didn't find him specialy hard to solo, it's a pretty classic Souls boss, you just need bollusses to remove the frienzy build-up. His opening attack lets you remove 20% of his HP for free.

People have been making the "don't use summons" argument since DS1. It's not new nor do I think it'll stop.

is this another "spirits make the game too easy for me so i must flex my lack of touching grass on the ER forums" thread?

Dude....i dont know what to say. This amazing human being just posted the contrary 90% of people complaining about the game tends to post, starting by the God Skin gank fest being "TeRrIBlE" or Radhan being completly bonkers, busted and unablanced.

Im speechles....sorry, postless and of course thanks for sharing your "refreshing" hot take.
You're welcome.
Radahn is far from unbalanced. If players want a true unbalanced fight, ceaseless discharge and bed of chaos is your pal. Godskin duo isn't a gankfest either, gank fests are the regular dudes swarming you a crazy amount. Think the top part of Undead Parish or anywhere in DS2. We don't get to experience the swarms of enemies charging at you since their AI drops aggro after a good bit and the enemies are spaced out way more apart from one another.

New players have it easier since the map isn't trying to kill them as much as before and sites of graces/marika make run backs pretty straight forward.
Bed of Chaos "only" require you dod doeg stufgf that is extremely hard to impossible (deppend on some luck) or can be beaten by doing this (and I did not knew for the times I finished it because I myself could not think of it and had not watched videos about):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWOzN6PWKjQ
and dont know if From really wanted that or for the player to die trying to survive the arena crumbling in one go or die twice.
Either way I see Bed of Chaos to be a gimmicky boss and, for the gimmick, it is ballanced and serve its purpose (it is just an idiotic bossfight meant for some gimmick), I think it only count it as boss fight if we count the whole path until Bed of Chaos as "part of the boss fight", or else it is just a gimmick no matter how you look at it, an environmental hazard to somehow be surpassed.

Ceaseless Discharge:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZphoCEZj82o
I was lucky to find it on my own when I first played, but honestly I think it is common reaction to run away like that back to the entrance so I think it is the expected gimmick end of the boss when From created this bossfight.
It is only "unballanced" because of the camera if you try to actually fight it (and I had tried some years ago but the result is similar to that):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6eVzmn4GS_c
A somewhat boring fight but that is easy to get hit here and there due to camera being this bad due to the wall too near the player and honestly it is easier and faster to just use the gimmick so I dont even count that as a boss fight either.

So you don't like spirit ashes, then you use them, then you're upset that you used them.

I wonder what the solution is

You know.... every time someone complains about spirit ash they always mention Mimic Tear or Tiche. You know it's almost like JUST mimic and Tiche are OP and not spirit summons as a whole.

And every time I see a thread talking about how OP they are and they can beat fights for you i WISH I had recorded the clip of one of the DLC bosses instantly 1 shotting a +8 blessing +10 Mausoleum knight group. The ONLY spirit summons that are problematic is Mimic and Tiche. And people exploit it so much that I wonder if they really know there are 64 of these things just in the base game. Not just 2.

Try making a build centred around them or not using Mimic/Tiche and see how "op" you think they are then.

You're really out here suggesting that spirit ashes like the Miranda sprouts are stronger and tankier than a player. It's honestly hilarious. Again exactly 2 ashes are probably equal to players and it's Mimic and Tiche.

Well the main "problem" is that the typical Dark Souls 1,2,3 and Sekiro playstyle
is not what Fromsoft wants for Elden Ring and especially not for the DLC:

Elden Ring is not Dark Souls 4
Elden Ring + DLC is Skyrim Souls.

They made the bosses movesets so hard to learn for the most part that for 99% of players
the only viable playstyle is just be overleveld , collect sadutrees and summon a spirit ash and then have an easy win without learning the bosses or overlevel , use op weapons and simply damage trade and outheal the boss

Elden Ring becomes a lot more enjoyable when you think about it as Skyrim Souls instead of an Action Game.

IN my first playthrough of the DLC i decided to do a Skyrim Souls playthrough and use all the strong tools in the game.

So far i have 1st tried all the first 4 bosses and i dont even know what any of them have as moveset at all.
LOL
( Divine Lion, Rellana, Hippo , Mesmer)

Stop thinking of Elden Ring as an Action game !
learning bosses moveset and actually getting skilled at fighting is a waste of time in these....

JUst go RPG style and win vs the bosses by having op tools
everything in this DLC screams that this is how Fromsoft wants you to play

This. Elden Ring is an RPG first and a souls game second.

Your take on the game "work" yes but is not what everyone wants.
Yes it can be played as "use everything the game provide" as it can be played as "Dark Souls 3 open world go bonk-em-all full melee relying only on dodge" playstyle and it just work too, may make the game to be harder and demanding more time to learn the bosses but works.

Devs, FS included, realize coop makes a large contribution to sales. spirit ashes are there as an offline alternative. Judging by sales figures it appears like their marketing strategy worked. Maybe next game they will offer an incentive not to summon players or ashes.

Elden Ring is Skyrim without TODD HOWARD! We get Miyazaki instead.

Also remember people you didnt played "PrOpErLy" the game if you used summons,Scooby-Doo blessings, OP weapons or hell even IF YOU DARE TO HEAL.

You have to play completly naked and with a STICK...WOODEN STICK ( i dont want to see you using anything more than a piece of wood as weapon) also take 0 damage or hits.

Dude... a cheat engine made character VS NG+0 bosses.....i wish i could summon you to my cavern of knowledge and let you solo the Soldier of God Rick (without CE! i dont use those things).

Now again....play your way and dont let gatekeepers dictate you how to have fun with the game you bought.
