I think the expansion's story would have been better if it was another attempt by Miquella to revive Godwyn but this time he ends up with some kind of Frankensteinian monstrosity patched together, body and soul, from bits of both Godwyn and other empyreans like Mohg and even Malenia and himself.

Then he is basically begging anyone, even random tarnished, to fix his mistake. Wouldn't have the incest plot then but that would probably be a good thing.
