Shamans is a strange name for a people. Usually shamans are a priest class inside of a people. Maybe Marika and the shamans were part of the hornsent society and it was merely custom for a hornsent shaman to be stuffed into a jar at some point as part of divine service? That would explain why Marika birthed two Omens later and why the Crucible is the primordial form of the Erdtree. Marika ascended to godhood probably by doing something similiar to the jar stuff only on a bigger scale. She turned the Crucible into the Erdtree and birthed Messmer to purge everyone who refused to follow her new religion.
