Had to install mods to disable EAC. I miss seeing messages and bloodstains
Messages and bloodstains, in every FromSoft game, is some of the funniest sh*t. Unfortunately, I had to get mods to disable anti-cheat because of how bad the stuttering's gotten with Shadow of the Erdtree. Now I don't see them anymore, and I'm realizing just how much more enjoyable these games are made thanks to them.

Really wish there was an option to toggle them on without the rest of the online features. It sucks that I have a sacrifice a really fun (and funny) part of the game for the sake of performance, all because of a poorly implemented, optimized, and invasive anti-cheat that only helps defend a part of the game I don't even participate in all that much.

So I guess I'm wishing for a semi-offline mode that still reads for and shows messages and bloodstains. A key aspect of these games is shared suffering, that you're going through a tough time with a boss and so is everyone else. It sucks that modding is the only current way to get the game to run well, and it sucks even harder that doing so removes the whole entire theme of shared suffering all these games have.

I feel the same honestly. I use seamless coop which doesnt have a message system and I miss the feel good feeling when someone appraises my absolutely worthless and only funny message about Ranni's legs haha or the few helpful ones I left behind.

But I wanted a better coop experience and both EAC, crappy bandai servers and the horrid every 15-30 minute resummon of friends lead me to modded coop. Just wihs they would add messages to it.

Couldn't you just launch the game from the folder, as that literally bypasses the EAC launcher. This is how most people use cheats to get items/runes so they don't have to farm their 10th run of the game, or get an item that has a .5% chance to drop to try a run with it.

Completely agree. Only thing I miss after leaving vanilla behind forever.

If you do that now EAC will run a check and will often take your save file as modified since it ran without it. But the main point is how EAC at the low end takes up 15-20% of your CPU and 25% of your GPU just to run in the background and I have seen that spike to as high as 50%-70% while its running.

I was seriously baffled by how much better my game run with EAC disabled. It felt like my whole Elden Ring experience had been sabotaged by it, I constantly just put up with the stutters and framerate issues genuinely thinking it was my specs. It wasn't.

I installed the same mods on my Steam Deck. Went from 20-30 fps to a consistent 40. It's insane how much of a difference it makes.

Well I would recommend Seamless Coop mod if you still want to play with people, it's insanely active, runs without EAC AND runs on much better steam servers instead of bandick server trash. Still dont get messages or bloodstains but has all the other MP features with larger coop groups and no fog walls or disconnects after bosses. Just continues MP runs.

It does use a different new save though just FYI.

Seamless Coop still works even with the DLC and recent updates? I tried using it with a friend once but we had a hard time getting it to properly work (we were also trying to do an item randomizer run with it, which was probably more of the issue.)

It's strange that the game even has AC/DRM since it's only relevant for PvP which most people never bother to interact with either way because of how bad it is in Souls games.

Yes it has been updated for the DLC and current version. The seamless coop discord also has a video explaining how to add other mods to it, its much more mod compatible now.

I may consider giving it another go, then. But if it doesn't have messages then I might not bother, I don't really care much for summoning / PvP currently
