is there literally any difference between light and medium load dodges
I swear my dodges are just as unresponsive at light load vs medium

EDIT: I was really pissed off when I wrote this lmao

Light goes farther

You get more I frames too? The fedtralife wiki probably says. Dunno, the benefits of running decent armor have caused me to disregard light weight past a fleeting fancy.

No, the iframes are the same

Light rolling has less recovery frames, meaning less vulnerability frames after a roll.

This means that chaining rolls together is faster, and makes it less likely for you to be hit by a roll catch etc. - spamming rolls is easier.

Medium roll will leave you more vulnerable and won't be as fast.

Dodge in this game happens on release, not on tap. This makes it feel really unresponsive when in most games like this (e.g. Guild Wars 2) the dodge is always on tap.

I guess the devs designed it this way because of the limited number of buttons on controllers (so that sprint can be on the same button), but it comes at the cost of jank.

You can fix this with a macro, so that you dodge on tap, and sprint from a separate button.

Incorrect, only backstep has less recovery frames, roll iframes and recovery are the same

Unless I'm corrected and proven otherwise, it seems like light rolls allow you to travel further and have more I-Frames compared to medium rolls. Light rolls also have lower Stamina consumption and can be done in slightly quicker succession. The differences are slight, but they are definitely noticeable.

The recovery frames are what determines how often you can spam it.
Light/medium have the same recovery. So doing them in succession is the exact same speed

Sorta reasonable goal now with dragon (or weird lamenter) skins and skadu boosts + the great shield / pearldrake talismans, one might suppose.

The talismans that male you take more damage but dodge (or back step on the other) better definitely make you dodge things then think 'that should have hit me'

I played medium weight through the entire base game with multiple characters. And now when DLC hit I got kinda by accident a light weight build for the first time (martial art weapon) and I just decided to roll with it (HA-HA).

And to my surprise there was a noticeable difference. I got away from stuff I was so sure I was going to get hit and some fights were straight up easier with light weight load. I didn't feel like I was taking that much more damage either.
I felt I still died to same amount of hits / to same string of boss combos like I was with heavier armors (meta 51-52 poise) if I messed up.

This was my personal feeling when I played with light weight load for the first time after exclusively playing medium weight builds before such a long time. Definitely recommend trying both weight classes and see which one you prefer.

I don't do invasions but I can tell in PvP if you have light roll you are really hard to get cornered. And if you combine long reaching weapon with that you stand a better chance to deal with multiple opponents (of course this works in PvE as well).

Aha HAHAHA

There are lots of moves that light load help dodge. Like Messmers stab stab stab stab in the air. Can't really dodge it, but with light load I'm able to get under him and it misses me.
