Do NOT approach the Shadow Keep!
This is some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game design. Whoever is responsible for this needs to be fired.

So it turns out a BUNCH of stuff in the game is permanently locked out if you approach the entrance of the Shadow Keep. LOTs of NPC quests are automatically failed if you haven't already finished them. You also lose out on the ability to summon Leda for the Rellana fight. Probably other stuff I don't know about.

You don't have to kill anyone, talk to anyone, or do ANYTHING more than just walk near the entrance of the Shadow Keep for this to happen.

This really makes me mad. There is NOTHING in the game to suggest you will be screwed out of a bunch of content just for going exploring. You don't even have to kill any bosses to get there.

This makes me want to just quit the DLC. Phenomenally stupid game design.

It's not just the front of Shadow Keep. There is another path to the Shadow Keep which results into the same "event" happening.

this game isnt a walk in the park like the witcher 3.
Quests failing because you chose to explore a little in an openworld game that encourages exploration is... frustrating.

You’re not locked out. You can still get the 7th cook book from Moore if you save him. Just talk to him after you kill Miquella.

its the "lauded" From quest design.

I honestly find quest design the weakest part of all From Games.

Research is exactly what you are not supposed to have to do to play a video game. I love the challenge of these games, I hate the questlines that can unknowingly wreck your whole playthrough.

you beat mohg and radahn and just realize now how fromsoft quests work?

straight way is not always the best. I tried to do approach most others ways before going for the obvious center.

Yeh just don’t talk to him, or select “I don’t know” when the rune breaks.

Nah dude this is a very dumb take. Having to look up stuff on wikipedia or whatever does not equate to difficulty, it equates to immersion breaking, tedium, and bad game design. I love an in depth game like many people, but you can't deny that being locked out of content because you explored in an game with a focus on exploration isn't silly.

Ill gladly look up a information on a weapon, talisman, or whatever if I haven't found it after hours, but this is much different than that.

Gaius is probably the worse in my opinion.

The thing that bugs me the most is that the whole Scadutree Fragment thing ENCOURAGES exploration. You want to find as many of these things as you can before taking on bosses. That's what I was doing when I triggered this "event". There was nothing to suggest I shouldn't go anywhere I could currently reach.

Just play it again.
Who cares

It is a bad design to break quest from exploration, I could see defeating certain enemies to a degree, but exploration is what most people want to do before starting most minor quest.
