Dlc final boss is horrible
I've been fighting this guy for 5 days straight and I still can't beat him. I'm always up for a challenge, but this isn't challenging in a good way. If you make one mistake in his second phase, you're dead and you have to get through his first phase again. On the topic of his first phase, it's not that bad besides that one attack where he does 2 slashes inward then slashes out because it's almost impossible to not get hit unless you're so far to his side that he can't reach with the second hit. Also, his attack where he goes into the air and flings rocks at you has an inconsistent hitbox, and if you get hit by it in his second phase , you're probably going to die to his follow up attacks and explosion. The whole second phase just makes my computer overheat and lag constantly, and I'm not having fun constantly getting one shot by everything. I'm at scadutree level 20 but he still does too much damage, there's no room for error, and he's just not fun. I hope he gets nerfed so we don't have to deal with this in future playthroughs.

I had to resort to the good ol shield and poke

DAMN! 5 days! took me 2... lol Radahn makes you question if you want to play a Souls game again after this. I had to change My Build to:

"Mausoleum Carian Sovereignty Knight of Solitude"

Plus, Mimic.

I truly hate his quarter health nuke. It was my chokepoint, I had no idea how to dodge it and to be honest I still don't. I survived with sliver of health when I've beaten him.

About to start NG+ to farm him.

"Lots" meaning a dozen streamers aka people who do nothing but play these games 80+ hours a week.

Out of 5+ million players.

Yeah, lots of people doing no-hit runs.

Just use summons and/or a greatshield like 90% of people did, then you can pretend that you beat the game and tell others to git gud and skill issue.
Why would I want to do that? I wouldn't feel like I beat him, more like I just exploited his weakness to shields. If people like me want to beat him without using shields, summons or broken builds, then they shouldn't feel like it's not possible.

Refusing to use tools the game gives you to give yourself an arbitrary challenge is fine, but not all "bosses should be beatable by whatever arbitrary strategy I want to use". The game gives you these tools for a reason. It's like saying you should be able to beat Malenia with a colossal weapon stringing together combos at will, because that's how you want to play the game.

How fromsoft go from messmmer - Romina to this piece of modded garbage ?
Boo Jul 3, 2024 @ 5:01pm
actual advice, if you don't want to become a statistic who uses greatshield pokes and calls the game garbage: just use parries. You don't need a shield to parry either. Parrying nullifies his combos and makes him more tolerable in both phases.

marek.jop1 Aug 9, 2024 @ 2:10am
no, he is just difficult
Kreett Aug 9, 2024 @ 2:35am
Actually learn his patterns and stop reaction dodging. Dodging backwards at any point is a mistake and it's always a trap. Paradoxically you are safer the closer you are to Radahn unless you're desperate for a safe spot to heal. And for the love of god level vigor.

This DLC really made me realise that FS goes too far and is trapped in a "our games must be HARD !" way of thinking that make them going farther and farther and now, on ER, that's it, end of the good ideas, just difficulty for difficulty and it feels meaningless when you think about it.

This + all the things they don't fix, like this damn camera who bother us since Demon's Souls -_-

being the final boss doesnt excuse having outright unfair hitboxes that reach way past his swords and the cross slash that you have to either have to straight up predict when hes going to do it and dodge the milisecond he starts the animation or use a specific ash of war or talisman to avoid.
Hes unintuitive
His earthshaker attack he does when he puts his swords in the ground? Yeah you cant jump that when literally every other boss with an attack like that could be avoided
How about his starcaller call follow up? It hits like 7 times so you cant roll through it but gaius has an identical move and you can roll through it no problem.
Hes a cool boss not denying that but hes by all means unintuitive.

And before anyone gets all huffy: im not saying hes undodgeable or impossible, Ive beaten him multiple times and while i have defeated him i have found little enjoyment past his 1st phase, they took all the cool ♥♥♥♥ you could do with every other boss and tossed that out the window for "difficulty"

Sure hes harder but let me tell you jumping horah louxs earth shaker and doing a jump heavy punish him feels a helluva lit better than having to roll radahns earthshaker and get behind him.
Gaius sucks but being able ti dodge his gravity rock storm and punish him immediately feels way better than having to immediately run from radahns starcaller call because "♥♥♥♥ you you cant roll it to punish you HAVE to run away because i said so"

Hes allowed to be difficult, but to achieve that a lit of the fun factor was left behind.

See my issue with this DLC isn't even the difficulty... yea Radahn is hard and that's fine... he's just so f**king boring to fight... I got him down to 1 hit away just a few minutes ago and was denied my victory (my previous best was about 1/8 his health) and yea i'm just giving up not because i'm raging or it's hard... i'm actually just bored.

His fight takes so long due to his health, his move set is realistically just the original set with more speed in the first phase and then it's the same sh*t with a few more moves thrown in but a color swap to white and gold for the second and 'third' phases. I'm so sick of fighting him not because i'm angry at losing and if I gave it a few more tries I could defeat him and move on with my day but honestly he's just boring... the last run I did (where I almost got him) I was literally watching the video on my second screen more than the fight because i've done it so many times at this point (probably why I failed at the end in all honesty).

I much preferred Messmer... he had some cool fake outs and an engaging moveset... Radahn? He's just a faster version of the fight i've already beat several dozen times for myself and friends. All in all I would have preferred an actually unique boss and not this lazy tripe... but we got what we got and i'm not going to let one boss ruin the rest of the DLC for me... it's still easily the best one From has put out in a while it just has one glaring issue and that's HOW they made fights difficult... many are 'hard' just because (like PC Radahn) they are damage sponges that don't let you get more than one or two hits in ever minute or so... thus inflating the length of the fights (unless you cheese them... or parry... i've heard parry works but the char i've gotten to that would require a whole respec and leveling of entire kit to even think about parrying and i'm not doing that for a fight I'm actively not having fun with).

"He's not hard.
I can't beat him."

Pick one.

I have no shame in admitting that I am one of those "git gud" players. i always tell people to get better at the game when they have struggle beating a boss. that is the Souls way. you bang your head on the wall, you learn how to beat the boss and you get better for it.

That being said Consort Radahn is not one of those bosses. When you have a boss that makes Malenia look fair and balanced in comparison You know you have a nasty case of "we want the player to feel really miserable." like Malenia atleast has very clear signals on what she does and when the blade dance is on it's way.... Consort Radahn in Phase 1, does this well too. The phase 2 however is just designed the be really unfair, tilted and chaotic. Radahn has alot of combos and attacks he can just cancel out of and he will just spam attacks on you that are hard to tell that are coming because the cameraman(the real final boss of souls games) and the epileptic seizure effects of the boss fight make it a chore to try and keep track what he is doing if you can see it at all that is. "well its the final boss of all of souls" so that is all reason you need to make a thoroughly unsatisfying boss that is just designed to be unfair unless ofcourse you have one specific build which is High poise, Shield path. where you have to learn nothing about the boss and you just tank it, and bleed/poison/rot him until he is dead. which makes the boss a joke.

You can learn the phase 2, That is not the argument, the problem is that it will take longer than you can reasonably expect from a player. even a veteran. because I can do dodge dex build the phase 1 easily without taking hits. But as soon as Phase 2 starts I get wiped out and it takes longer to learn Phase 2 when my punishment for missing a single dodge is to do Phase 1 over and over again. And as result I fail to form a phase 2 mindset when I spend majority of the time doing Phase 1.

FromSoft looked at Malenia boss fight reception and took all the wrong lessons from it.
Boss design in ER is horrendous. You're not gonna feel satisfied beating them fairly so why not spare yourself and cheese them
