Hot Take - There Are No Bad DLC Weapons
Every single time I try a new dlc weapon it's broken in some amazing and unique way.

Bloodfiend weapons can either be infused for max bleed values in the game, occult for physical, or elemental to maintain bleed and get a massive boost of dmg.

New dex weapons scale at an S and put out incredible endgame amounts of dmg. To the point that normal attacks are practically the new ashes of war.

Magic infusions work great on new weapon categories including things like the great katana, and thrusting shields.

The new whip has the DKS 3 weapon art which makes it mandatory to have in your left hand in dual whip setups.

Multiple colossal weapons one-shot with their weapon arts as demonstrated by chase the bro pvp footage.

Perfumes are bugged but useful regardless, reverse blades turn you into an anime character.

Bows are viable for the first time ever.

Find me a weapon in this dlc and I guarantee I can break it harder then a blasphemous blade user who has all the buttons on their controller broken other then L2.

That's the most lukewarm take on the DLC you could have

The water is wet and the floor is made of floor

Oh but what kind of floor is it oh great clever one.

Hard wooden, cedar, marble, or stone?

I thought the point of these games are that there are no bad weapons in general? Every weapon is viable depending on the way you build it.

Definitely a hot take, because so many weapons are bugged and/or poorly designed aka not even playtested at all.

Smithscript Cirque has stupid scaling on INT/FTH infusions, 800-900 damage on paired swishy-swishy blades, which you can also throw from a safe distance using R2's.

Rolling Sparks AoW for the perfume bottle weapons has a bugged collision box, and if aimed at the ground it will proc at least 9000 times, burning through any boss in the game.

Fire Knight Greatsword is a colossal sword that has a true combo of R1->R1, meaning you can stunlock enemies (and real players) for whole TWO hits of a colossal weapon.

Blind Spot and Swift Slash AoW's for the backhand blades class weapons have no counter at all in PvP, you can just spam that to win virtually any melee battle.

Bloodfiend's Arm procs bleed in one hit.

Etc, etc.

Yeah Smith weapons are nuts, and everyone thought they were bad at first lol. Even when they are working as intended they are top tier.

Aside from the screwed requirements making it hard to apply for a 125 build, it's a nice alternative to not using kukri in PvP

The range is absolutely abysmal and the damage is laughable. Not worth it.

Well yeah the discus shield does perform the same role but better

It's fine as a meme weapon like bows, surely you could make it good as an infinite status option, but if the weapon was "good" enough to be mained it would be broken good

I think a lot of it just has to do with players not properly leveraging new tech.

Say you want to run Smith hammer:

1. Smith talisman
2. Two handed talisman throws

25% throw dmg increase.

Infuse with flame art and buff that dmg with fire tear.

Use a ash of war that buffs weapon dmg etc. Etc. Forever and ever till optimized.

All of a sudden that throwing hammer is landing strikes at your nearest bowling alley.

99% of this weapon bad discourse arrives from oh no I can't stick shard of Alexander on it how do I play game...you don't use shard of Alexander you use new stuff.

Smithscript Cirque was immediate love when I got it and never looked back. Cold infusion Blind Spot > Radahn, slap on the talisman that restored FP over time for true hilarity

There has definitely been bad weapons in these games. Ultimately viable yes, but in terms of difficulty, beating the game equipped with a torch is objectively a lot harder than doing so with a Claymore. It can be done, of course, you can beat the game with just your fists, but everything will be harder if you try.

You're arguably making life harder for yourself if you only run with one weapon, especially in the DLC where neither upgrade materials nor stats should be much of an obstacle.

Tell me, what can you get out of the Serpent Flail? Or the Bloodfiend's Sacred Spear?

Blood fiends spear has 120 bleed build up that can be brought even further beyond with seppuku.

Alternatively elemental infusions will keep 68 bleed build up and massively boost dmg.

Either way you slice it it's a straight upgrade over your old Demon Souls winged spear.

Haven't tried the flail yet.

Final options is pure physical dmg with Occult infusion and A scaling but you lose bleed which is kinda the point of the weapon.

The reality is that most of the DLC weapons are pure upgrades over base game.

Faith build: base game banished knights halberg happy to do like 1200 dmg in dlc

Smith hammer: hits for 3k at range

When I say there are no bad DLC weapons really what I mean is that there are broken DLC weapons that massively improve base game builds, and then there are nice to have's at the lowest end of the spectrum.
