How do I equip a new weapon?

It says you can have up to three weapons in each hand. So I found some kukri and also crafted some throwing knives. I want to have them as a choice in the left hand, to be able to switch from shield to knife. But in the equipment tab I don't find a way to assign the kukri to either hand.

Kukri and throwing knives are items, not weapons. You equip them in your pouch or hotbar.

Some throwin' weapons do be items.
Some throwing weapons do be armaments.
If it doesn't have a minimum req to equip, it's not an armamamamamament.

Kukri is a throwing knife consumable that is slotted to the equipment slots where you flasks are, or you can have it on the directional quick select from the right side of the menu
