the abyssal woods is a total letdown
i first step foot in the area on night time, raining reading "don't let em see" "run" making my heart race, only to introduce me a call of duty stealth section, where the "monsters" are walking in scripted path sequence

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ really? all that build up walking through a creepy forest, in the dark, raining thinking there is scary monster walking in the area freely, only for a scripted sequence!?

Dark souls isnt a horror game and im tired of ♥♥♥♥♥ stealth sections in games they dont belong in.

I liked the idea and atmosphere of that place. Definitely a cool addition to the game.

Haha yea, so mysterious. Then one mf#er turns up, gets his head bashed in and what follows is a 100% empty area. What a ♥♥♥♥ show, its clearly unfinished.

what do you mean scripted sequence, do you want procedurally genereted enemy attacks as if they are a minecraft seed?

procedurally genereted attack what now? do you even have the DLC? the monsters patrols one spot walking back and forth. the whole area is pointless

Yeah, those enemies were a waste of time, as was the whole place, and most of the DLC areas.

while the zone is shallow, it was still kind of neat to explore and get those things.

yeah like, all mobs do that, in just about any game?
anyway parry them and move on

It felt different from other parts of the map which already makes it interesting enough to me.
Fromsoft clearly tried to create a reference to a typical japanese horror games here and in my opinion it was successful to some extent.

Should have made them invisible/untargetable, then they would grab straight out of invis with a "scary" warning sound quarter-second before the grab. And spawn them randomly instead of predefined positions.

Also change the useless "hide in bushes notes" to "listen to the shadows, be fast or be dead".

This way would be more appropriate for the setting I think.

The zone was too big for how empty it was but still had a nice atmosphere, and the mansion and boss at the end were really great with excellent lore

I'm just annoyed they made a massive frenzy forest, but despite it, we get no cool new frenzy monsters (can you ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ IMAGINE a frenzied drake fight?)

I wanted to fight more of the madness merchants and trolls, and they could've added cool stuff like frenzied versions of those altus golems, and now they're so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ they don't even hold axes or bows anymore, they just get on all fours and start swatting at you in a panic. Or maybe frenzied tree sentinels, since we're in a forest. I don't know, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ anything.

Why make this entire ass area if you're going to copy-paste madness rats and weird elephant people all over it? The stealth section is cool for like 2 seconds and then you get bored of it, and the actual legacy dungeon is short as ♥♥♥♥.

Literally the only saving grace of this area is midra, peak boss fight.
