how i use ash of war?

all the guides i saw saying hold Shift and press right-click but nothing happens my character just holding his guard that's all, i have the ash of war equipped

You have to equip it to a weapon through a grave. You're likely forgetting to use 2h mode.

you hold shift and right click, thennnn you press left click to do it
