Seems like there is quite a lot of empty space in the DLC
Quite a bit of space to just run on your horse through that contain nothing of interest. What do you guys think?

thing is, usualy in open world games you have npc's, cities and so on. It feels like a place people life in. Even in wartorn areas like the witcher, or ruined places like s.t.a.l.k.e.r.. In Fromsoft's soulslikes this is simply not the case.
there's definitely a lot of areas that lead nowhere with no item or enemy to find, the base game was full of surprises.

Yeah, certain parts of the map are very dense in content, but other parts are just nice scenery. Charo's grave, hinterlands and Cerulean coast are a couple of examples. They do feel a bit like Mountain top of giants. Big area, but there is almost nothing in it.

It's a good thing no one apparently needs to eat in the Lands Between, cuz there's like 3 farms if that lol

but mountaintops of giants leads you to the most hidden area in the game... that is filled with 99% recycled enemies you have already seen, a recycled boss, and Melania rofl

It is though, so what's your point? There is stuff everywhere regardless of the empty spaces in-between. You'd want a boss or a treasure every 10 steps?

IMO it's better in that regard than the base game - every point of interest you visit you find something interesting, new or useful.
at least they could have added some enemies and not those freakin trash mobs :P wouldnt mind if it were godrick soldiers.. trolls.. those giant dogs.. those giant birds.. but please.. give me somethin to fight.. i BEG YOU

Really? Colour me surprised. Something in the fourth disk? It's true that they close some places, but looked like it was on design.
Yeah, I always felt it was very incomplete with the west continent mostly unused even with the story setup and some other odd falloff in quality later on where it felt rushed but then I found an article from people who worked on it confirming it.

It basically boiled down to a combination of severe memory constraints and release schedule limitations. See my post on the first page here for more details to that article and other resources about it if curious

open world game design is inherently less interesting than any world designed with attention to detail, which is why the legacy dungeons are the only good parts of elden

Morrowind has one of the best and most interesting worlds to explore - the issue with modern developers is that they think "big = better".

Casuals eat this up as well because they aren't in it for the gameplay anyways, so riding a horse in an empty field and watching grass blow in the breeze is peak gaming.
