Ranni Saved Godwyn's Soul From Miquella

Lore Speculation to show that Lunar Princess Ranni of the house of Caria saved Godwyn the Golden's soul from Miquella the "Kind"
*SPOILER ALERT* Those who are yet to play a considerable length of the DLC may find content in this lore theory to be a spoiler

Here follows the lore theory :

Ranni, the mysterious witch who had long observed the lands between from seclusion and secrecy had closely looked into the motives and plans of all who "pull the strings". The Greater Will, Marika... Miquella.
She at some point got wind of Miquella's plans. And by this point from the DLC quest involving Freyja and Ansbach it's quite clear that Miquella had at some capacity tried to use the body of both Mohg and Radahn to become the next God.

This has seemingly been a running plan of his - To choose a consort who he would carefully kill. And later revive. Needless to say, in the early days of the golden order, Godwyn the Golden was truly the most decorated and honourable of all Empyreans begat by Marika.

Miquella had thus chosen. His first consort. His first victim. Ranni had to act quickly. And show her immense knowledge, insight, foresight and wisdom. She had to come up with a plan to prevent this. She knew, perhaps understood better than anyone else how truly terrifying Miquella's seduction was. All the while keeping in mind that she herself had to find a way to sever that which let the Greater Will control her life.

So she came up with the most audacious and brave plan. To invoke a heretical ritual that would take a shard of the rune of death. The death of her body. And Godwyn's soul. Knowing how some people will hate and curse her forever. And she took the plunge..... into darkness and uncertainty.
To slay Godwyn's soul was the only way to prevent him from befalling a terrible fate. To end up as a puppet, robbed of all willpower and a mind infested and entranced seduced by wicked poison that tastes like golden nectar of the gods. That is Miquella's elixir. To maim and mentally incapacitate those who he chooses as consort.

But simply slaying Godwyn would not have been enough. So a shard of destined death was needed to ensure that Godwyn's soul could not have been revived by Miquella in the land of Shadow to play as his consort...with or without consent. As for herself, no matter how terrifying and powerful Miquella was, Ranni's biggest strength wass her secrecy. Her mystique. She knew that if Miquella ever tried to hunt for her he would try to infiltrate her inner circles. In order to not raise any alarms she would have to quietly play along his game.

And so Miquella did chase after her. He planted an agent who was to bind Ranni. And create a mindless indisposed consort...ready for Miquella to abduct. Seluvis.

If one ever follows through with Seluvis' quest...his final plan of turning Ranni into a puppet would require one to fetch a certain "amber starlight". Amber, again is a sign of a great tree. Amber represents the primordial crucible as it is a sap of that essense. Amber is found encrusted in ornamental and ceremonial weapons of knights of the Haligtree. And amber is of a deep golden hue, a consistency of a rich lustrous drink of immense power to make one drowsy...sleepy.

As all of it failed, Ranni proved too shrewd and insightful to be controlled or manipulated so easily. Seluvis obviously failed, but more importantly...by the time he died, Ranni had retrieved the storied secret of Nokron and cut off all ties to her corporeal troubles. She was now truly out of reach of all external influences...no matter how enraged Miquella may have been, Ranni had out-witted him.

So Miquella proceeded to resume his plan B as the rest has been revealed in the DLC... Using Mohg to open a portal to the land of Shadows, then planning to use his corpse as a body to possess; once his new chosen and promised consort Radahn would be ready. His naive and ever devoted sister had seen to the first part of it. Successfully consuming Radahn's mind from within so there would be no objections.
