Star Fists vs Claymore

So, I was just bashing my head on the two Gargoiles in the Aqueducts with my Star Fists (+19 with thunderbold but I also tried Flame of the Redmanes) which I was kinda working towards. Took me about 15 tries until I lost patience and swapped to the Claymore (+18 with Storm Blade) and made short work out of them on my first attempt.
The Star Fists aren't a complete loss - I defeated Morgott with them on my second try but I can't make them work as well as the Claymore although the Star Fists actually are a level above the Claymore.
The Storm Blade and the stagger of the Claymore just beat anything I tried so far with the Star Fists. Any ideas on how to make them work at least almost as effectively as the Claymore?
