Not really living up to your name here.
I agree with this. Spending so much time and focus only to get in one R1 hit feels bad. It sets in this sort of "hard difficulty fatigue". 2 or 3 times is fine but not for every damn boss.
This is so insanely wrong it hurts. The Land of Shadow is the greatest designed map in gaming history. It's so ripe for exploring and discovery. Weapons, items, armour, mini bosses, large bosses, legendary bosses, new enemy types, lore. Exploring the map finding hidden ways to get to unique equipment or bosses. Routes that you think are hidden but are simply cleverly disguised in some way, a maze like map that so brilliantly integrates itself with an open world.
You think it's empty because you expect to run into action every other step, like what so many other ♥♥♥♥♥♥ open world games do, like World of Warcraft. This DLC's world is a world design for exploration and immersion. Learn to just experience it, rather than constantly looking for something to fight like some child with severe ADHD.
I also disagree with this. It's a good system that balances out the experience for all players. It evens the difficulty for everyone from level 100 to level 500. It's a good and necessary system that gets you to engage with the world. However, due to your previous paragraph it seems exploration is something that isn't quite your forté. Maybe you should play a game that's more linear, like God of War? Resident Evil? Hellblade Senua's Sacrifice?
Miyazaki wasn't around? What's your source on this? Yes, bosses are tedious and too many of them require too much time to learn which is why they're tedious. However, you have the ability to make the game easier on yourself. The DLC gives you a ton of new items to buff your damage and defense, you can summon help and use ashes. Too afraid to use them because they're cheats or something? Why do you care about your "souls" clout? Will your online friends bully you because you ashed Radahn?
I solo'd the first half dozen or so then ashes and summoned the rest and had immense fun doing so. Then again I also appreciate the incredible and phenomenal open world that was built here.
LOL "greatest designed map"
Just stop.
How is telling the truth trolling? Stoopid zoomers and their hivemind, sheeple, eco-chamber behavior... Objective criticism is the only way to ensure quality, you being a pathetic shill does nothing but ensure that the quality and effort put into games will get lower and lower. Feeling proud yet?
" I'm not quite sure where you got the impression I did"
Hmm I dunno, maybe from your gatekeeping, "WhAt ArE YoU DoInG HeRe" attitude? Oh boy, how can people be this dense..
And again, objective criticism is only "disruptive" to hype bandwagon riders and silly gen Z snowflakes, feel free to cry in a corner if my words hurt you this badly
I'd say, considering your attitude and what you said about FromSoft games in general, you just simply do not like this type of genre they created.
In which case......what the hell are you doing here?
"Sure you did, pal." Yes I did, pal, when your options for 3rd person action coop games are so low there's little choice but to buy souls games. Also, I bought it from a key seller so I'm not even sure they earned a thing lol and if they did, I don't care, 30 bucks is nothing compared to the 100 bucks they could potentially earn from me buying the basegame and its atrocious DLC, which I sure as heck won't.
"They pretty much created their own genre. Games in that genre would never exist without them creating that genre. "
What genre? Action RPGs have been around for decades lol "soul-like" isn't a genre, kid, and From didn't invent anything that could be considered a new formula or genre, they literally just copied tons of ideas from Monster Hunter and Metroidvanias, Berserk, even their way of telling the lore is nothing new. Do a proper research before spouting ignorant nonsense please!
Also in Japan, the country that created all those games, there's no word for "souls-like", Dark Souls and its copy-pasted cousins are simply part of the huge umbrella term that means "death game" (closest Western term to it would be masocores) and includes Castlevania, DMC, Ninja Gaiden and other challenging games.
"And nah, the other companies are WAY worse.
You are putting them on the same pedestal even though you pretty much only hate FromSoft for releasing games you dont enjoy. That is wild."
Nope, From is up there, all it's missing are microTX, but the copy and paste, milking of their terrible, decade old formula, as well as their laziness when it comes to graphics, optimizations, story-telling, netcoding and tons of trivial QoL things that even indie games these days have (uncapped framerate, ultra-wide support, a camera that actually works, no attacks clipping through geometry, etc, etc) it's all there lol they are the new EA/Bethesda/Ubisoft but your fanboyism blinds you from the truth, pathetic...
"You can just, you know, ignore those games though? Like what is your issue here precisely?"
Again, their bad influence on the industry, showing everyone that they can be lazy af and still make a profit by making a clunky, braindead combat, as well as its awful, cancerous community that is literally everywhere (I love when they go to forums/subReddits of better games and start crying about how they are getting their butts handed out to them even though they are "souls veterans", as if this meant sh*t... Souls games gave scrubs the illusion that they are god gamers, and that turns out BAD when they play skill-based games lol
You hand waving away legit criticism is a YOU problem, buddy, and LMAO at this mystical genre From created I have yet to see... Maybe use your old friend Google and search what aRPG is?
"what the hell are you doing here?"
LMAO are y'all bots? Geez, you guys probably share the same brain cell..
And you're out, condescending bro...
So, with all of that in mind, you have no reason to complain.
You actively keep supporting the very thing you dislike.
That is a you-issue more than anything.
30 bucks are still 30 bucks. You still gave them money. You still showed them that this is what you want.
You do realize you can always, like, choose not to buy a game right? You don't HAVE to play it. You can play other games.
Subgenre then, to be more specific.
Sorry I thought you were able to connect those dots yourself but I will try to be more precise moving along this conversation. Like Kindergarten-level of precise.
There is a reason souls-like is it's own category on steam now.
Same with Metroidvania, for example.
These games inspired a certain style that made other creators follow them and create their own versions of it.
It's not the storytelling, it's mostly the gameplay.
Good to see we still use "kid" as an insult though, seems like calling someone a child is never gonna get old (little joke there for you if you can understand it).
Alright the fact that you genuinely, unironically put FromSoft up there with EA, Ubisoft and all those trash companies lets me know that you are not arguing in good-faith.
Cause that is simply, objectively, not true. For a miriad of reasons.
There is a reason other companies got mad at FromSoft for creating Elden Ring.
Normal triple A pricing, no season pass, no microtransactions, no pre-order exclusive bonus, a HUGE game, post-launch support etc etc etc.
It's not even remotely close.
Their "bad" influence?
Are you kidding me?
Alright buddy, there is no point in discussing anything with you.
You just do not like this subgenre of games. ♥♥♥♥ happens. Move on and play other games.
But to say that their games, of all the garbage triple A games out there, are a bad influence on a industry that is currently pretty much in flames is such a braindead take I can't help but think you're just trolling me at this point.
I want your genuine criticism, cause so far you haven't given me anything here.
That's become a habit around here.
Haters coming in, trashing both the game and the playerbase, screaming "IT'S OBJECTIVELY BAD! I AM ALLOWED TO VOICE MY CRITICISM!!!11!!!" and then trying to derail each conversation with more and more nonsense.
"So, with all of that in mind, you have no reason to complain.
You actively keep supporting the very thing you dislike. "
Much to the contrary, the fact I spent even a penny on their game gives me all the more reason to lash out at their subpar product! (still I'm not sure they even got a buck from it since I purchased it from a key seller though lol) and again I bought it for the online functionality; coop, carrying people in games is a huge deal to me and one of the reasons I've put thousands of hours in MH: World, both Nioh games, etc (and the reason I was so mad at Dragon's Dogma 2 devs for not adding coop to it)..
Oh and there's also the fact that I'm interested in game development and, as much as everything else in From games is GARBAGE, gotta admit that their artists are god-tier, so studying their level design and environment art is another big deal...
"Subgenre then, to be more specific.
Sorry I thought you were able to connect those dots yourself but I will try to be more precise moving along this conversation. Like Kindergarten-level of precise."
Bro really using Steam tags to try to prove a point! Desperation is real... The math here doesn't add up, souls games didnt invent anything new, they literally do what tons of games have done in the past. Restricted movement with no ways to cancel out of animations? Many Castlevania games, Monster Hunter have done that before. Boss with multiple phases? Again, done to death since the 80's. Minimalist story-telling? Laughs in Metroid, Shadow of the Colossus. Level design with breakable walls, shortcuts, non-linear progression, some paths initially locked by something you need to fetch some place else? METROIDVANIA said hello. Checkpoint that replenishes your HP but also respawns the enemies in the area? METROIDVANIA said hello again. Need I go on?
You have to deal with the fact that in Japan, the very country that created all of those games, "souls-like" isn't even a thing. That's just millennial/zoomer nonsense that stems from ignorance in game history or just typical need to parrot other teens in order to feel like you "belong", "fit in".
Also, explain to me this: why don't we call hack n slash DMC-like, even though DMC basically gave birth to it and Platinum is formed by former DMC staff? Why dont we call Heavenly Sword, Castlevania: Lord of the Shadows 1 and 2 and Dante's Inferno God of War-like even though they literally ripped off entire pages from that franchise? Notice the double standards here? Why only From gets to get its own "subgenre" even though they literally didnt bring anything new to the table, whereas other actually influential franchises dont get their own subgenres? You trying to argue in favor of the "souls-like" nonsense is so st*pid in so many levels...
"Alright the fact that you genuinely, unironically put FromSoft up there with EA, Ubisoft and all those trash companies lets me know that you are not arguing in good-faith."
Yes I am, only fangirls struggle with admitting the obvious! Like I said, only microTX is missing for From to reach the ranks of these other sh*tty companies but in my eyes it's up there.
" of all the garbage triple A games out there, are a bad influence on a industry that is currently pretty much in flames is such a braindead take I can't help but think you're just trolling me at this point."
So EA and Ubisoft are bad for milking the same franchises and formula dry, but when From does it, it's fine? (there are tons of reused bosses and enemies within ER alone, as well as assets and animations that can easily be traced back to Demon's Souls. And there are videos showing the copy-pasted animations, gameplay elements, spells from Sekiro and DS3, but sure, From good, Ubisoft and EA bad...) Yeah, buddy, you have no right to talk about braindead takes cuz yours take the cake...
"I want your genuine criticism, cause so far you haven't given me anything here."
I already sprinkled tons of bits of genuine criticism, but I know you want to pull a "playing chess with a pigeon" here, you're not the first and won't be the last, sadly. What's wrong with you people, I'll never know.
Blame your fellow ultra passionate, fanatic souls cultists
