There's an NPC you can invade in the Writheblood Ruins in Altus Plateau. You can defeat him instead of doing the three invasions.

I want to say that the maiden-ness of the cloth comes from the maiden blood and that's it's a normal rag from varre's kitchen otherwise.

Unless, of course, we interpret the maiden-ness of the cloth metaphorically, in which case it could refer to the purity of the un-bloody cloth.
