the abyssal woods couldve been cool
imagine in those woods the signs saying dont let it see you its untouchable all this foreboding stuff hinting to an untouchable enemy. Then your venturing on torrent when you see an enemy you approach it and suddenly a yellow sickening light blasts down on him and causes frenzy to perk on it. You naturally look up to see the source and you see a giant frenzy owl its gaze moves to you. torrent kicks you off and and now you have to get to any nearby cover the ground would have plenty of giant roots and debris to hide under but scarce enough and far enough away from one another to be intense you frantically follow torrent ethereal hoof prints while hiding from this creature. After a short but intense chase through the woods you find torrent at the foot of an alter to the owl who has been chasing you. You activate the altar the owl lands and now you are locked in a duel.

That would be cool right, that would have been memorable, but instead we got an empty area filled with frenzied rats and a couple locations that give mostly subpar loot. OH and the foreboding signs were talking about weird ball headed dudes that you can just walk past no issue what a joke.

I'm fairly sure Nioh 2 did something like this, tatarimokke I think? The mission was definitely more annoying than memorable. I really enjoyed the vibe of the abyssal forest but I agree it could've been done better.

They made the area too big. If it was like the Forbidden Woods from bloodborne, it'd feel less empty.

This is my main issue as well. It's a fairly big area that doesn't allow Torrent to be used, but has virtually nothing in it.

The only really relevant thing there is Midra, and he's all the way in a corner.

I was expecting something like a giant wendigo with frenzy coming off it patrolling the entire area and there would be a chance it would find you anywhere, then it was just mediocre stealth in a game that barely encourages stealth to begin with. Lame but the dungeon in there was cool though at least.

Still mad there’s no madness merchants in the area. It’s like the most underused enemy in the game for ♥♥♥♥♥ sake.

I was hyped for more madness enemies in general, really disappointed we got basically nothing.
