They shut down all the servers back then and as a result to this I stopped playing souls-games.

However, is it fixed now? Is it safe to play this game without the danger of getting the hardware trashed due the exploits?

so far yes, they can not run remote code execution at your system, they can only manipulate some stuff in your savefile by invade you but also for this are two solutions found.

yea it's a classic. I always backed up my save games and restored them manaully if they ever changed something.
Is it a cloud-based save system or without steamcloud / local save games?

steam cloud is bugged with this game, never use it and make always manual backups of the savefile than you are on the safe way.

I'm joking ofc, the anti cheat just slows down the game massively. Best to play offline without it, but online with it is bearable. It's a massive piece of ♥♥♥♥ honestly only capable of detecting cheat engine running and even then not always

You joke but the amount of exploiters who try to convince people that anti cheats cause game issues and that's why they have inject multiplayer games with hacks and exploits

In this case it might be actually causing issues with the game. It has been flagging players incorrectly since the pre-DLC patch and booting them offline. Don't know if there's a work around that but i myself have been booted out of the game a couple of times, fortunetly all i had to do was restart the game. Steamdeck users can't play the game without the DLC at all from what i heard. Easy anticheat is quite honestly one of the worst i've had to deal with and it's devs don't care about all the issues it's tied to. And then there's the joke about how EAC is called that way bcs of how easy it is to bypass

Just keep getting booted out after one invasion since the DLC came out. I am playing on my original first character. Co-op works fine, but as soon as I invade I know the game will boot me out once I try to invade again.

Atrocious anti cheat more like it.
