For a lowly casual like me, using Spirit Ashes and having a higher than average Blessing, Avatar was actually one of the more enjoyable fights.
I cant quite put my finger on why. It just was fun to see which windows I could get Attacks on the weakspot into, where I could maybe even cast something (as a Hybrid) and eventually getting a handle on what to do and when.

It's a fight that definitelly left a deeper impression than Putrescent Knight or Metyr.
I didnt learn a lot about the Putrescent Knight Fight because with Holy Damage he didnt even manage to kill my spirit, and Metyr was just overall unimpressive. I think I may have died more often to Ymir than her. Gaius just died too fast because I had too many Blessings.

I don't use them because it's boring for me. I don't care about prestige. I want to play the game and defeat the bosses without a phantom jellyfish holding my hand. I want to learn a boss, counter it, and beat it with my own ability.

It's the same reason why I choose normal/hard difficulty in games, and not easy difficulty.

If other people want to use them, that's none of my business.

tl;dr: bosses in these games have poor AI that isn't built to fight multiple people, etc.

i don't get why people talk about this so much. OP didn't need to make this post, it's only to start infighting within the community.

OP. name one other game where you can summon and sit back and let the AI do everything for you. like imagine chess, golf, tetris, etc with summons where the AI takes over and wins for you, and then you come on the forums to wonder why it makes a difference. what a joke

I dare you to find a single boss in this game or the DLC where you can summon your Spirit Ash, not do anything, and still beat the boss.

In fact I'd argue summoning Spirits adds a complexity to a fight, simply based on the fact that Boss Aggro can randomly switch.

You do need to learn at least enough of the fight, so no single move can one-shot you, because any boss can at any point decide to target you instead of the Ash. And even then, I'd argue not all ashes are made equal in their ability to deal damage or beat bosses, especially not on their own.

AND EVEN THEN what do you care about whether other people play the game differently, other than needing a reason to feel superior to someone else?

At least the guy above you said that he doesnt care, but you have a clear level of spite for people who play the game differently from you.

When I first saw the spirit summons in the gameplay reveal a couple years ago, I thought summons were going to have a bit of a timer on them. Where they could come in for a bit and help and then disappear rather than being objective based - defeat enemies in the area and then leave.

I would have much rather had them been build based and temporary like they are a spell. The concept of having them is fine, but I just didn't care for the execution.

If there is ever an ER 2, it would be nice to build summons around glass summoner builds. You an bring out summons but it would require a lot into stats. Having it be usable for every build is just to much of an easy mode gimmick.

I may be alone on this, but I don't really care about the bosses in any souls game. I only care about the exploration, and I've been playing them from Demon souls when it was free with a psplus subscription back on ps3. I love all these games, over and over, but I have no problem using summons on the bosses.

Not a darn thing.. They put them in the game and made them a major part of it for a reason. Miyazaki uses them he said so.

probs not in the DLC but in the base game you can most def spirit ashe on some bosses and they will 100 to 0 them. for instance blackknife tiche, and bloodhound (there are more than those 2 that are capable) both will destroy quite a few bosses for you especially if you summon an NPC.

yeah. i like the levels (legacy dungeons now). bosses are just gates i need to pass to get to the next level

a few boss fights were really fun for me, like Gael and Fume Knight, but mostly they were a chore, so i don't feel i'm missing anything by cheesing them

lol just search on twitch for "spirit ash only" runs, it's like the first challenge run the community did. granted it takes a lot of skill, but it demonstrates how OP the ashes are.

and if you want to use summons, use them. just shut up about it and stop making posts to justify how summoning an AI means you are still somehow good at the game

there are items that do this without using ashes or a summon sign. (found receipts) Rosus Axe ashe of war , the sorcery Tibia summons and i'd consider watchful spirits as well.

But that literally is how they work? You only have them available for some fights, and they disappear when you beat the boss or respective enemy. Still dont get why using them is wrong though.

I dont get the "it's an easy mode gimmick" argument. Like how does that matter to you?
Other people can use them. And if they have fun because they can win fights now? Great for them. Why is this a bother to you?
You dont have to use them.

And even then, you need a stat investment, namely in mind, especially for the more valuable ones.
Either that or use FP Talismans.

I really don't get how this needs to change because it makes the game easy. In the end, all it does is help From make more money, and has literally 0 impact on your playthrough.

You do what you want. I use all that stuff. As much stuff as I can pile on. I don't bother with the one hit broken builds with all the buffs and change-outs and whatnot, but I don't care if you do. Make a video, I'll watch it.
I guess I'm a scrub, but I get it done. You probably will too.
