Are using the shadowtree fragments as bad as using summons?

What are you talking about? You just collect a certain amount of them like estus charge material and use the number the grace wants you to use for a level up. That's all it is.

No, all the damage values (enemy resistances, player resistances, damage dealt by player, damage dealt by enemies, etc etc) are tuned around leveling up the skibidi level as you progress. Not leveling your skoda level would be the equivalent of doing a RL1 run in the base game.

No? They're very much intentional as another means of progressions instead of regular leveling.

I feel like these are difficulty sliders that miyazaki moved from the options menu to the site of grace. it works exactly like how other game's difficulty setting, easy mode = more damage dealt and less received. which is what having scadu fragments do

They're also independent of the matchmaking system. Runes previously were the difficulty slider. More Rune levels, less danger. But that has issues with invasion and coop and many players were handicapping their builds to stay at a fixed level.

But now the system includes a way to get stronger without screwing over your multiplayer gameplay. And the best part is that it affects everyone joining your world too, so your world can be as hard or as easy as you want it to be.

This is like saying leveling up is bad. Scadurtree fragments are a separate leveling system for the DLC since some people would of started the DLC later and some earlier as well as people who had farmed levels, not using them is like doing a SL1 run, the entire point of the system is to put everyone on an equal playing field. Also using summons is a completely fine strategy, it is in the game to be used. I don't understand where this obsession with not using game mechanics comes from. It wasn't like this with Dark Souls, Dark Souls 2, Dark Souls 3, Bloodborne, etc etc Just Elden Ring players have this prideful obsession. What do you have to prove and to whom? You are not special for playing the game like someone you saw online full of restrictions.

To answer your false dichotomy, not using Scadu frags is a special type of mashochism challenge run whereas not using summons is just the normal challenge run

Also not all of the summons are broken OP and utilizing those ones can be pretty damn fun
