I am a beginner
Hello guys, I just bought Elden Ring and played for 2 hours, I never played any souls-like game, and now I am stuck on the first boss Margit. I would appreciate some advice. Do I need to rush through the story, or should I also go in other directions and upgrade my character?

Thanks

the general expected idea is if you cannot beat margrit you head south and explore limgrave for a while, do other dungeons and come back later.

Why would you even want to rush through the story??

Dont do Margit early game. Especially not after 2 hours. Explore all of Limgrave and the penninsula first. Then get his shackle from Patches to make him a little easier. You can't rush the story. You will have to be at least level 100 to beat the game.

standard open world game, explore till you hit a wall, go elsewhere, repeat.

Make sure you've leveled up your weapon a bit, +2 is good but you can find materials to upgrade to +3 if you explore a bit

You might also be wanting to level up your character a bit, Rune Level 20 - 30 is a good spot for Margit

Try to explore Limgrave and south of Limgrave to level up and find some upgrade materials.

You can go wherever you want, you might want to kill some bosses around that area called limgrave as most of them should be easier than Margit.

You should consider increasing vigor stat first because any weapon you pick (with probably one exception) has very little scalling with your stats, so even if you would get a lot of strength your damage is still not going to be so great until you upgrade your sword quite a bit.

You should look up for church like looking ruins, most of them contain upgrade for your healing flask, which makes your healing stronger.

You should look around for little golden trees(I am sure you seen one on a way towards Margit), where you can find a golden seed. These increase the amount of flasks you have. I think with more flasks you will survive longer and therefore do more damage in the whole fight.

there is no need to rush find some guide on youtube or discover everywhere by yourself

Explore Southeast and South. Unlike most of the Dark Souls games, you can always pick a direction and explore and level up more naturally, being an open world and all.

As people said above, in an open world game like Elden Ring, whenever you get stuck on a hard boss or something you can always go wander off in another direction to pick up more stuff and become more powerful before coming back.

... well, unless you're on the final bosses of the game and have nowhere left to go, of course... but that's dozens of hours of playtime away!

The best advice I can give for this point in your experience is: if you get stuck at a particular place, go out and explore elsewhere and come back to it later. Try exploring the rest of Limgrave, or even better, riding Southeast to find the Weeping Peninsula, and explore that as well.

After doing so, you'll likely gain a couple levels, some new items to try, and a better idea of what kinds of weapons you enjoy using.

I also really enjoyed putting the Storm Strike ash of war on a greatsword - doing that got me through the majority of the game the first time I played. You can purchase Storm Strike at the Warmaster's Shack in Limgrave from Bernahl.

When you touch a grace, you'll see a yellow energy line pointing towards the general direction you need to go to next

the line points you at *important* places, not places you can handle right away, they are places of importance.

remember to come back to them, but no rush
