Exactly how I feel - not lackluster... but not... not lackluster yk?
Ludwig tops almost every track of all the games, ofc
Next game needs someone like Motoi Sakuraba again to cook up proper remarkable videogame music. These premade epic cheap movie trailer-like themes are too cheesy and tiresome.
Ehh... "Those United in Common Cause" was the only track to make me really feel much of anything, but beyond that I just find myself enjoying their past soundtracks a lot, lot more.
Again, this isn't to say the music is anything bad or the worst in the series by any means; I mean I've played more of Elden Ring than any other souls game but for the life of me I just don't get that same sort of gusto out of the soundtrack. I'm not looking for people to just vehemently trash on the soundtrack as they haven't done anything wrong by any regard. Just... something is missing and I hope they find it again before the next release somehow. You mention some bosses to which I somewhat remember their themes, but again, something is not there where it should be. I'm not a composer nor do I know much about actual music composition, but as someone who has played all prior games leading to eledn ring, I can tell you that while it's not the end of the world, I was left a little confused when I reached the end of the game and I was left with not a lot of tracks I really looked forward to revisiting. Either way, I think it's nice that this isn't the general consensus, and that there are people who genuinely enjoy the soundtrack compared to prior releases.
Hell yes, I love the nier tracks dearly. Japanese games have some of the best music out of games in general, and I felt that fromsoft was no different. An attitude unchanged with the release of Armored Core 6 especially. I just wish there was some more of a push to try something different with elden ring, as it felt like a bit of a step back from how different the music from their games usually are.
That. It just feels like exactly how a movie would be presented, but not in a good way. I get it, cinematic experience and everything but I always felt way more invested in boss fights with soundtracks from their prior games. I always scratch my head when people review this game and include the soundtrack as one of the best parts of the game. I just personally don't get it.
DLC IMO had even better boss music, loved Bayles theme with Igon in the background, also really liked the final bosses music and the Dancing Lion's.
In fact, Elden Ring's music and audio in general are so badly designed I now mostly play areas I'm familiar with sound off. I don't even think it is mediocre. I'd just say, frankly speaking, it sucks. It isn't "omg this is so horrible" but it is easily trash and they didn't even try.
