Forgettable Music in General
I'm wondering if anyone else feels the same - Elden Ring is lacking just that one thing in all of its fight themes and I can't quite put my finger on it. It's not helped that the DLC didn't do it any favors either. Not once did I find myself intrigued by any of the OST, which is sad considering that I still think most if not all of fromsoft titles, including Demon's souls, Ds1, Ds2, Ds3, Sekiro, BloodBorne, and even most of the Armored Core soundtracks all have interesting music, let alone ambience which I think Elden Ring lacks a lot of too. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy this game, but I'm pretty disappointed in the dip in quality of music for the game. Just something about the general ambience of this game is just off, or should I say nonexistent. I really need help with pinpointing what it is, since I don't want to seem like someone who is trashing a game that I otherwise enjoy "just because". Perhaps the field music that plays was too much for a series like this? I don't really know but a lot of bosses lack that original fromsoft flair in this one - completely contrary to how I felt about Armored Core 6's bosses and score. What happened?

Yeah. There's nothing I actively dislike about the soundtrack, but it just... fades into the background. I never actively listen to it like in some games. I barely notice it, even when I'm hearing it for the first time. The only exception is the Elden Beast track, but even that one isn't that good honestly.

I'm not sure what the main thing is that the tracks are lacking. Maybe just a stronger beat/melody? It's all just really atmospheric, not gripping or energizing.

Exactly how I feel - not lackluster... but not... not lackluster yk?

I think the DLC has many, many problems, but the music and environmental art might be the only two things that are pretty much perfect.

I kinda agree, as I don't really remember too many of the boss themes. Main theme does slap imo, and Mohg is a damn heavenly experience for me.

Ludwig tops almost every track of all the games, ofc

All music in ER seems the same.

Next game needs someone like Motoi Sakuraba again to cook up proper remarkable videogame music. These premade epic cheap movie trailer-like themes are too cheesy and tiresome.

Elden Ring has some of the best OSTs in From history and most atmospheric ones too. Leyndell as an ambient theme for example catches the feeling that this is a capital fallen from grace long ago perfectly. Caelid OST is terrifyingly good too. Then we have Radahns boss theme, Renalla, Morgott, ofc Radagaon/Elden Beast, Godskins etc. which are all masterpieces.

With the DLC we now got Messmer (you can also feel a lot of emotions in this theme), Lord of Frenzied Flame (insanely good theme, captures the horro perfectly and could be straight out of Bloodborne) and ofc the final boss theme which also captures both characters we see there perfectly, especially the later half of the theme.

So no, I wont ever accept an opinion like you have. Its simply not true. Elden Rings theme is definitely far better than DS1,DS2,DeS.

Ehh... "Those United in Common Cause" was the only track to make me really feel much of anything, but beyond that I just find myself enjoying their past soundtracks a lot, lot more.
Again, this isn't to say the music is anything bad or the worst in the series by any means; I mean I've played more of Elden Ring than any other souls game but for the life of me I just don't get that same sort of gusto out of the soundtrack. I'm not looking for people to just vehemently trash on the soundtrack as they haven't done anything wrong by any regard. Just... something is missing and I hope they find it again before the next release somehow. You mention some bosses to which I somewhat remember their themes, but again, something is not there where it should be. I'm not a composer nor do I know much about actual music composition, but as someone who has played all prior games leading to eledn ring, I can tell you that while it's not the end of the world, I was left a little confused when I reached the end of the game and I was left with not a lot of tracks I really looked forward to revisiting. Either way, I think it's nice that this isn't the general consensus, and that there are people who genuinely enjoy the soundtrack compared to prior releases.

I disagree.

After I'm done fighting a boss I coop the hell out of it or go to youtube to listen to the OST all over again, because of how amazing it is in my opinion.
The only soundtracks I was listening to after playing the game were: death stranding, metal gear rising: revengeance, Witcher 3, nier Automata and like 2-3 tracks from cyberpunk.

Hell yes, I love the nier tracks dearly. Japanese games have some of the best music out of games in general, and I felt that fromsoft was no different. An attitude unchanged with the release of Armored Core 6 especially. I just wish there was some more of a push to try something different with elden ring, as it felt like a bit of a step back from how different the music from their games usually are.

That. It just feels like exactly how a movie would be presented, but not in a good way. I get it, cinematic experience and everything but I always felt way more invested in boss fights with soundtracks from their prior games. I always scratch my head when people review this game and include the soundtrack as one of the best parts of the game. I just personally don't get it.

OST is kinda good, of course it's not that epic like Bloodborne one(personal opinions, lol). Personally i found soundtrack from Sekiro much more lacking than any other title, i ended up only enjoying music in Senpou Temple and that's it.

Final fight music is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ amazing and I love it.

Can't say I have the same feeling on this one, lots of bangers. Loved the Raya Lucaria ambient theme especially. Almost all of the boss fights have good music as well, though you seldomly appreciate it because you're too busy focusing on the fight.

DLC IMO had even better boss music, loved Bayles theme with Igon in the background, also really liked the final bosses music and the Dancing Lion's.

Pretty subpar compared to other game scores like certain JRPG series (Final Fantasy stuff, Chrono Trigger, Xenoblade franchise, etc.), some of Metal Gear Solid's works, Castlevania, some Zelda games, etc.

In fact, Elden Ring's music and audio in general are so badly designed I now mostly play areas I'm familiar with sound off. I don't even think it is mediocre. I'd just say, frankly speaking, it sucks. It isn't "omg this is so horrible" but it is easily trash and they didn't even try.

I thought the music in Stellar Blade was fantastic.
Ah a shame its console only. Perhaps one day they'll port it. I might check the OST though on YouTube. Thanks.
