Affinity how?

Ng 4 or 5, 700 hours elden ring, and halfway thru dlc but how the eff do i apply an affinity? Can someone explain step by step, because i cant see where, what button to press to give my things affinity. To i need to be at the smith? At a fireplace? Where do i have to be to get a menu option that lets me change affinity? Using backhand blades. Want to make them blood affinity. Much appreciated.

go to a site of grace, ash of war menu > pick a weapon > choose ash of war and pick Blood affinity

you need the Whetblade for Blood, and you it needs to be an Ash of War that's compatible with Blood

Also, most/all special weapons cannot receive an affinity. I found that out the hard way when I tried to do it to my jesus needles.
