ELDEN RING
why so many negative reviews?
I loved the main game and thought about buying the expansion. So i was kinda shocked when i saw all the bad reviews. So whats up? Is the DLC just not worth it?

Because people don't actually like this format of game except when journalists give them permission to like it. Boohoo, the game is too hard, boohoo, the world is sparse and padded. They dislike the DLC for all the same ♥♥♥♥ that was already in the base, "best game of all time, take my firstborn son" game.

People are upset because it's as difficult as Dark Souls has historically been, which is a bit above the base game generally. Then some are salty because they have to do things like explore around before tackling bosses, not just steamroll them with dual bleed katanas.

The DLC has a couple little things that need tweaking, but overall it's fantastic. It's big enough to almost be Elden Ring 2.
i had to disagree the bosses are doing too much flashy combos non stop and only small windows to hit back. i don't like how they design the bosses on the dlc. i dislike it. especially me who trying to play it solo because it felt like the boss fight were designed to be gank or it was designed for people who wants to do a no hit run.

these bosses have too much spam, too much poise, and their attack sometime is not very well telegraphed. it's like the weapon they wield has no weight at all.

in previous games you're not being forced to simply watch the boss go through a sequence of attacks before you can attack.

I hated people who compare SOTE DLC Bosses to something like older souls DLC Bosses. THEY'RE NOT THE SAME. the Souls one at least was fair there was actual back and forth. in ELDEN RING SOTE. you just watch the boss doing attack combos endlessly and then when it's your turn it was just small and very rare window to attack and it was just a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ pinch of damage for that boss after risking it trying to hit them.

i know some of you going to say ♥♥♥♥ like go get more scadutrees, or oh you haven't beat the bosses. or use this build or that build! like bro! old souls bosses can be beaten by any builds. not some specific Bleed build, or rot build, or some greatshield build. that just making all build obsolete. where's the role playing? you can't even use your favorite Greatsword or long sword or whatever normal weapon out there just to fight some specific boss.

haha too bad i have fought promised consort radahn it took too many tries. and frankly it wasn't very enjoyable like old souls bosses were. people are going to be mad at me for being passionate abouthe boss fights. but here's the thing they could have done what they done with Malenia and just use that as a template but nope. let's go F u K it all up and made the worst boss design of the decade.

People are entitled tbh, this game isn't harder than Sekiro or Bloodborne. But that's a subjective opinion, like everyone's.

Not exploring is like rushing to margit in the base game and complaining that's it's too hard.
See the big difference is that when people enter the DLC they already have their character made. Nerfing that build just doesn't feel good. Especially since some builds are almost unusable.
Nobody is nerfed and there are no unusable builds
Skill checked cry babies not wanting to admit they suck at life

Agreed. My main complaint about the base game, the attack speed and order of some bosses and enemies can get so tedious. Rune bears the best example, since you can meet one very early in the base game, one attack after another, and if there would be a window, then it is after he jumped far away from you.
Godskin noble, one encounter he just did an endless rolling attack.
The first time i fought Mogh, he just spammed that bloodfire over and over and over again, the whole arena was on fire....wow, gameplay. Then the second time it was totally different, far more relaxed.
And not to mention all enemy attacks going through solid covers

ive beaten the dlc already, and i can say the dlc is almost unfair and unplayable at times. don't get me wrong i love a good challenge. but at times i literally wanted to bash my brains against my monitor. being unfair does not = hard, majority of the later bosses have 5+ hit combos that they immediately follow up with another set of combos, making it almost impossible to punish. that's just not good game play in my opinion. its like the devs saw how people violated the base game and said "watch this"...... once you do finally beat it though it feels like you just conquered mt. Everest but that climb up to the peak is UNBEARABLY painful. by the end your almost just glad you don't have to keep going instead of being proud you defeated a hard boss, which you shouldn't have to feel that way

majority of the time when a boss is done with their 8 hit combo you only have enough time to get 1 MAYBE 2 hits in and your more than likely going to get smacked with their next attack they already started because they have no punish window, id genuinely still be fighting radahn to this second if i didnt switch my whole build to a shield to beat him. the main complaint is the bosses being unfair, not just hard but completely unfair. i shouldnt have to fight a boss for an hour slowly getting 1 hit in every 5 attack chains because there is no windows. i LOVE the dlc but it is straight up just bad at some parts. the run up to radhans boss fight made me want to end it all because im just getting jumped by 20 enemies and getting hit with attacks i cant even dodge

its way harder than sekiro because sekiro is completely a fair game, its pure skill. if your good at countering youll never be touched once. and the bosses moves are all perfectly telegraphed with big windups for this reason. the elden ring dlc doesnt follow this

the dlc is completely worth the buy. its amazing. youll just wish you wouldve went and played mario cart after it because its brutally unfair
It's hard, the bosses are hard on an annoying level for me.
I also have some frame drop situations.
And I still love it.

Performance will be fixed soon, so I suggest you wait for the performance patch. ;)

70% of negative reviews in Chinese. It must have something to do with game being Japanese.
Actually no, they are just upset about the difficulty. These people are just rushing into the DLC with their original build in the base game without actually GETTING READY for the combat. Some of them are even cheating, yet they still find the game difficult. That is hilarious.

Most people are starting the DLC with end game builds that have already hit the soft caps. The DLC is just hard. That's fine if you like it like that, but just own it rather than making excuses for it.
First of all, thanks for all the replies. I really didn't expect that many. I read most of them. It seems there's a wide variety of opinions, but they mostly boil down to three main topics, where most of the criticism is focused: performance, difficulty, and a new progression system.
No Ultrawide support a big oof!, a stuttery mess and virtually unplayable on launch and what I can gather it still is bad to this day. The game is still capped at 60 fps, very poor menu design. Some other criticisms are poor story, poor level design and art style but that is subjective.
"poor art style" :D

okay. got it.
