Is there an honest way to beat Midra?
I'm on Ng+. I haven't tried too many different approaches but my great katana is struggling. It's too slow to get multiple hits for punish. Also the input reading is pretty insane, god forbid you try to chug a pot.
I might just say ♥♥♥♥ it and use mimic tear but it's a fun bossfight I wanna complete without any summons.

Once you get used to his attack timings, he's remarkably easy to parry.

press R1 with a big weapon? lol

The DLC is VERY punishing for trying to use medium rolls.
Midra was quite punishing, my advice would be to either turtle up behind a greatshield (infuse it with fire) and use Guard Counters with heavy weapons for stagger or shield pokes with a rapier, OR strip naked and go for light rolls.

With how aggro most bosses are in the DLC you need to godroll everything with medium rolls, and that is quite frustating without dying a bunch first to learn every single move.

I just used the dragon hunter's great katana. That weapon art, and a even remotely decent shield trivializes literally every fight it feels.

I tried Dragon hunter great katana but everytime I tried using the weapon art he closed the distance and traded with me and trading with him is just bad business.
Are you also on Ng+ ? He hits like a damned truck.

I honestly hate using shields. Not even to cheese a boss. I'd rather use a spirit ash and play with the weapon I love.
But still wondering can a shield block his melee attacks? Some of his spin to win moves are technically oneshot if they catch you.

My current build has no colossal weapons at disposal. I have low strength. It's a hybrid build of dex faith and arcane.

I have honestly found that the absolute best way to play this DLC is to buff-stack and nuke 'em as best as you can.

Midra's not to bad honestly. Most of his moves just require a bit of practice and can be dodged consistently by medium rolling.

Some tips: He's weak to frost and bleed. He does fire and physical damage so Opaline Hardtear + Fire Pickled Liver + Flame Drake +3 + Greatshield Drake Talisman will negate the vast majority of his damage. If you're faith, you can also use 'Flame Protect Me' for a whole 60% Fire Damage negation for 70 seconds (massive). Should also be using Golden Vow and Flame Grant Me Strength.

Finally, you want the new +2 Talisman for Focus. Makes his madness buildup far less oppressive. Then either use alleviating boluses or stay back and allow madness to decrease passively when it gets too high.

I ended up beating him with Keen Backhand blades +25 and blood flame.
I couldn't bring myself to use spirit ashes so I had to git gud.
A tip for those who are struggling, around 60-70% Hp he tries to levitate and come down with a big explosion, if you can stagger him during levitation(blood flame proc did it for me) he comes down and you can get a few more free hits.
And yes, bleed procs do good damage. Probably a basic dex arcane build can shred him as well.

Midra is by far one of the most fair and pleasant bosses in the DLC. His attacks are telegraphed AF.

The problem is not his unpredictability, the problem is that he strings lots of moves together, not giving you space to heal or strategize. Also he has a very diverse moveset, he got melee combos, ranged attacks with AOE, spin to win moves and he can close distance very fast. His reach is also very deceptive. It's not a complicated boss fight but rather hard to adjust.
I liked the simplicity of it.

it does not work that well whit dlc bosses since they have a state such as malenia in which if they initiate a stance they get crazy poise so you need to time it but there is no cue to when he is or not in the stance which sucks since he can hit you for half hp and apply a bit of madness as well adding to the very aggressive chain of attacks and faints that he does .
