The Strengths of the Blackblade is that it can be acquired early, has very High base stats & has a black flame like HP melter on it's AoE. Sadly, it will always be overshadowed by the Blasphemous Blade for it's passives & Stronger yet similar AoW.
It's fine for now, as it's still pretty strong for where I'm at, but it's annoying because there have been a few enemies that I can almost kill with two L2s, and a slight damage bump would have probably made the difference. But I already have the weapon at +9 so it's not getting any stronger unless I decide to spend an ancient somber stone on it, and I'd have to get one first.
I think once I get past Leyndell it will be time to switch to something else. Already it takes five L2s (with Warrior Jar Shard and Sacred Scorpion Charm) to kill the blackflame monks in the Caelid tower (I was farming their armor set for my collection), so I don't want to think about what it will take to kill enemies in Elphael or the DLC. I've really enjoyed using the Blackblade, and the L2 has been a very nice way to hit things from a distance, but as I move into the end game it's only going to go downhill from here. Yes, it does have the HP sapping effect that deals % damage, but that's already a negligible amount of damage.
Once I have the somber stones, I'll try out some other weapons. Siluria's Tree obviously, but the Envoy's Long Horn looks like it could be decent as well. I suppose I may as well give the Blasphemous Blade a spin too, I just think it's a gross looking weapon and I seem to have an aversion to using "popular" or "overpowered" weapons. The Inseparable Sword might be another option.
This thing is... Useless in PVP, but it has high base DMG, it scales well, the initial explosion is just (satisfactory) and it rains fire. Why I never see any one else wielding this thing is such a shame.
The Envoy's Long Horn is a Boss shredder. Sure there are mostly Holy resistant Bosses past Leyndel & yet they still melt to this Joke weapon. Yes it's a joke weapon, but it's punchline is a killer.
I will say, as someone who mostly plays melee it can be frustrating trying to get close enough to hit something. Having a ranged ash like Corpse Wax Cutter has been really nice, and I think I'd like whatever replaces my Blackblade to also have a ranged ash. As such, the Inseparable Sword is actually pretty high on my list. Siluria's Tree as well, though I'm just not much of a spear person.
The Cranial Vessel Candlestand Surge of Faith might look similar to Bear Witness. But there are 2 big differences
-1 It's a Explosion, like Repel but doing Damage that also rains fire after.
-2 You can keep casting it as long as Stamina and FP hold out.
Either way, I was not planning on using myself but I had the stats to wield it and gave a go. I was surprise by how good it feels to use. Lots of Hyper Armor & the explosions are under represented. I'll stop singing it's praises here.
As for a Range AoW, well one of the best outside Blasphemous Blade for Faith weapons is the Halo Scythe. Miquella's Ring of Light is no joke but the weapon itself is more of a skill stick because of it's low Faith scaling for main weapon use. It's real issue is doing Holy DMG where Holy DMG gets resisted by almost every boss in the late game.
The Envoy's Horn & Envoy's Greathorn are better for Range then the Envoy's Long Horn. First one being Cheap while the later is a slow tactical nuke of Holiness. They are not the best compared to casting Incantations but they are reliable & underused.
I always keep this one close at hand in case I struggle in a boss fight. It's just so hilarious to see mighty dragons bow down to the power of bubbles. It makes the game too easy, but it's just too funny to annihilate everything with a PWAAAP.
