Does Incantations suck?
I just started a prophet character to make a paladin build and even farmed some runes and spells before going into Margit just to see how much damage I can make. I'm level 37 now and have 27 faith but with lightning spear I'm just doing 200 damage to Margit. Does Incantations suck that much? I remember my first sorcerer character doing more than 200 damage with glinstone pebble at level 6.

The only thing that really sucks with incantations is that the highest stat requirement incantation is almost completely worthless outside of pvp. Unless something was discovered that i didn't hear about.

Incants are good, the problem is all the actual good incant spells are in the later half of the game. Conversely all the best sorceries are found in the first half of the game. Basically Int builds are good very early on, Faith builds get good but start out a bit wonky.

Sorceries tend to be a one-size-fits-all approach; you show up, do magic damage, and for most foes it does okay. A bit like melee characters with physical damage.

Incantations are for the people who really want to geek out over the exact right tool for the specific challenge ahead; you won't be using glintstone pebble or its big brothers throughout the game; you'll be using fire incantations against fire-weak foes, physical incantations (Dragonmaw and Stone of G are two very different but fun options) against foes with generally solid resistance, electricity against electric-weak foes, and so on. It's fiddly, and it's awesome, but it's not for people who don't want to geek out over this stuff.

Lightning spear is your good everyday attack incantation though; you're doing something right. Black flame should be your other regular workhorse; between the two of those you'll have most foes covered. Bosses will take more work.

yeah this, you get two nice nukes when you kill fortissax which you can do relatively early on and i really liked using the flame of the fell god which is also fairly early game

other than that you pretty much have to get to melenia to see a new power spike in your incantations, before that you kinda stick to pretty basic lightning and fire spells
they arent bad but they also missing the extra spice other builds can get much early on

No but just like sorcerer the boring spells are usually the best, combustion i mean catch flame is really good through out the whole game, that and the rock throwing one

Margit have 40% holy nagation dmg, so... u will need diferente spells.

1- u need to upgrade or seals as well, people have already recommended effective enchantments.

2- lvl 37 is a low lvl yet, i recommend you see some farm tutorials in Calid there are excellent places there to calmly get lvl 50+.

3- Don't forget your HP, so you don't take an tap and die, a good spot is always to take about 2~3 hits.

If you've got the stats for it the Winged Scythe is pretty fun, the jump of the weapon art lets you dodge attacks if you time it right (and it's basically an instant fully charged heavy attack)

The Flame of Frenzy is pretty good against Margit if you get an opening, he's weak to fire and you'll hit with every single fireball if you're close enough.

(Both of these can be found in Weeping Peninsula)

If you don't wanna go for these I'd probably:
- buy the club from the merchant at the beach
- grab the Sacred Blade ash of war from Third Church of Marika near the Mistwoods and put it on the club (generally Sacred affinity gives more power but for Margit you want it to not change affinity)
- twohand the club, fire off a blessed blade, and then bonk Margit in the back a lot while the buff lasts

There's also a wandering knight miniboss at the back of Stormhill that drops the Sacred Oath ash of war (buff to all ATK and DEF), it'll make things easier (especially if you've got summons because they're also affected)
