ELDEN RING

ELDEN RING

Has it been identified who is the alien looking squid at the bottom of Stormveil Castle ?
I first thought this must be Ranny the Witch but I found her real body at the top of the Divine Tower of Liurnia, scrap this theory. What else remains of this mysterious squid ? Some kind of old-forgotten god of death maybe ?

Alecto is a damn good boss fight. Not many cool bosses in this game, a lot of them are out of proportions, and fighting them is an ugly camera headache, beating their ankles oh wow how anticlimactic.

Lore's actually pretty deep when you get into it. You should totally look it up.
So you are a deep expert in the lore. Okay tell me then what is actually Rogier trying to accomplish ?
To go fully transparent, I wrote a full essay on a lore topic on YT and this little troll wrote what I wrote:

Lore's actually pretty deep when you get into it. You should totally look it up.

Clearly I was into the lore but these little dismissive sentences were like nails on a chalkboard. You've been a good sport though and kinda funny so I'm not interested in fighting.

I’m pretty sure it’s a remnant of the age of cringy hardswappers… 7
They’ve never known, defeat
That thing is the corrupted fusion of Godwyn's corpse (bearing the Cursemark of Death) and the remnants of the original Erdtree.

For context:
-Deathroot item flavor text:

"A source that gives rise to Those Who Live in Death.

The beast clergyman, found at Bestial Sanctum in the distant east, collects and devours these roots.

On the night of the dire plot the stolen Rune of Death enabled the first Death of a demigod. Later, the Rune of Death spread across the Lands Between through the underground roots of the Greattree, sprouting in the form of Deathroot."

-Cursemark of Death key item flavor text:

"Cursemark carved into the discarded flesh of Ranni the Witch. Also known as the half-wheel wound of the centipede.

This cursemark was carved at the moment of Death of the first demigod, and should have taken the shape of a circle.

However, two demigods perished at the same time, breaking the cursemark into two half-wheels.

Ranni was the first of the demigods whose flesh perished, while the Prince of Death perished in soul alone."

-Rogier dialogue script:

"The misshapen corpse under Stormveil? That is a sacred relic. Of the black knives plot. As that famed night of assassination is known.
It happened during the Golden Age of the Erdtree, long before the shattering of the Elden Ring. Someone stole a fragment of the Rune of Death from Maliketh, the Black Blade. And on a bitter night, murdered Godwyn the Golden.

That was the first recorded Death of a demigod in all history. And it became the catalyst. Soon, the Elden Ring was smashed, and thus sprang forth the war known as the Shattering.

I once wished to become a scholar, you see. I've spent many an hour scouring the archives for knowledge of that fateful plot.

The world has grown crooked, and if you intend to put it to rights, you'd better understand what happened to make it this way, mm?

And...that thing is to blame for the shape I'm in now... I urge the utmost caution. Don't disturb the corpse more than necessary..."

Further note on Godwyn's ridiculous theory. If this was Godwyn, a whole lot of NPCs would tell you that. Like Rogier, Fia, and so on.

Fact is Rogier says that this squid is something very very old and ancient, much older than Godwyn
Wrong. Rogier tells you:

"The misshapen corpse under Stormveil? That is a sacred relic. Of the black knives plot. As that famed night of assassination is known.
It happened during the Golden Age of the Erdtree, long before the shattering of the Elden Ring. Someone stole a fragment of the Rune of Death from Maliketh, the Black Blade. And on a bitter night, murdered Godwyn the Golden."

He literally tells you its related to Godwyn. Then, when you find Godwyn's corpse, at the roots of the great tree, it has the exact same face as this one. Godwyn's body surviving without a soul warped it to these proportions as the first of Those Who Live in Death
Ranni is dead in body/flesh only and Godwyn is dead in soul only and his body keeps growing wild and spreading deathroot everywhere, including the squid thing under Stormveil. Both of them died around the same time and each was branded with one half of the Cursemark of Death. Have you actually paid attention to anything that was said ingame? Your posts in this thread suggest you dont know anything about this games lore.

Its Godwyn "corpse".

You still can see its blonde long hair on a side of his "head", and the clothes covering his legs.

He is just corrupted and corrupting everything else, because his soul died but his body somewhat did not, instead Ranny body died but her soul not. Thats why the centipede mark is split on 2, half for both of them.
Alright. I will accept that this is Godwyn. Seems like majority of opinion. So be it.

Wow, you've never been to Deeproot depths have you?
I have. If you are referring that Fia wants to make Godwyn a god of death. Does not explain what the squid is. Maybe the squid is the old god of death and Fia just wants Godwyn to take his place. But the squid is not Godwyn. Nonsensical as most post of yours

This is Godwyn, both in Stormveil and in Deeproot Depths. And no, Fia doesn't want to make Godwyn God of Death. He is Prince of Death already.
People should pay more attention to lore, although I get that for simple minds the lore in Elden Ring, which is convoluted a bit, may be too much to imagine and digest :steamhappy: Clicking fast through dialogues and skipping items descriptions make the game very shallow. To each their own.
Remember, Godwyn is only half dead. His soul is dead, but not his body. The opposite of someone else. So the body is still there. And he's a demi-god so normal rules don't apply much.

If you find the places with the deathroot, look carefully. You can sometimes see eyes on the growths. Sometimes a crab appears to have a similar face. Underground, in deep places, something related to death is corrupting from below (the Erdtree, or all the lands between). This is likely the leftover body of Godwyn, who was the first of "those who live in death", and the undead worship him as the Prince of Death (not The Golden).

So yes, Zombie Demi-God Godwyn is the most likely person. Even though you see what may be him later looking very different, and both very different from the intro video. But he's corrupting the roots all over the map, he's spread out, he's not just one small body in a specific location. And as a demi-god the appearance is not fixed (just witness the other demi-gods to see this).

But Godwyn is still dead, soul-less, this is all his left over body twitching, and spreading the "life within death" corruption far and wide.
godwyns real body is under leyndell though, its actually alive and its where fia and you goto enter his dream. the one under stormveil is just a growth from where they kept him temporarily after he was killed
Its godrick wife
It's one of Godrick's new toys. Respect his privacy and leave that room.

Every eye on an infected crab is Godwyn. Every time you see deathroots along the walls in a catacomb, it's Godwyn. He has spread through the land using the existing roots of the Erdtree. The squid looking thing under Stromveil, with Godwyn eyes, is Godwyn.

He tried to find the source of the living dead rather than just keep fighting them like D. He traced it to deathroot and the Squid under Stormviel, with Fia's help.
