Gotta love that post hoc error. Death Stranding is still being played because it's an engaging, relatively unique game; the likelihood that an aspect ratio is driving enduring engagement in a game is practically zero.
On the other hand I would believe that the very small percentage of UW owners only plays some games to "drive out their cars" lol...
What do they expect? To be able to see a larger portion of the scene? To have more vision? This would lead to an advantage and a different experience from all those who use a common 16:9.
What would the consequences be? It would lead to an imbalance and many people would be led to get ultrawide monitors too.
That's not how video games work.
I mean, true. If I owned a Corvette, I'd definitely hit up the Salt Flats or my local race track with greater frequency. As it is, my little SUV and I do just fine getting where we need to go, and I get the added benefit of cackling at the dinguses who think speed limits are polite suggestions for other people when they're stopped on the side of the road, wailing "I swear, officer..."
Your logic makes no sense. Back in the days games were in black and white, now we have colors. Is that "unfair"? What about people who want to use racing wheel setup in an rally game, is that unfair too? It's about the immersion....ESPECIALLY in a singleplayer game where u don't have an advantage over others.
The "advantage" you speak of is negligible in a multiplayer environment anyway, The increase in field of view can make things more demanding on a 49 inch ultrawide, way more surface area to scan your eyes over.
Even tiny indie dev studios enable ultrawide support, you'd expect a gazillion dollar company to do the same. But again, lazy devs. It's obviously not about the manpower or capability, since 1 single dude can make it happen in days through a mod.
You do not understand how this works. An app (or game) can be displayed in any resolution by default. Which resolutions can be chosen or whether black bars are displayed are conscious choices, crying "lazy devs" is just dumb. Yes, you can mod the restriction away, but people have elaborated on possible side effects. Your stance at this point, after two years of folks ranting about this and not considering available info, is just ignorant. This game does not support UW. Play it, do not play it - noone cares.
Restricting a game for people with high end equipment sure sounds lazy to me. Then again, these devs aren't known for their amazing pc support.
Strange how they made ultrawide support for Armored Core then, same devs and all.
Got it working anyway, thanks for the "feedback".

Purchasing niche hardware and then expecting broad support for it sure sounds irrational to me. I cannot imagine the type of high-end sports car owner whining that his local two-land is not, in fact, the Autobahn.
People had the same idiot mindset about 4K monitors or CRT vs flatscreens back in the days, now it's way more common. Sounds like a money problem.
