Stance broken (Tree Sentinel)
Sometimes I get him to a point where the horse kneels down on the front legs. I suppose this means that his stance is broken. But no matter where I hit him from with my normal attack, I can't get that special move to connect. Is there a particular direction you need to attack the horse/knight from to get it to proc? Anything I can do to get this special attack/finisher to trigger correctly?

You can't riposte him, sadly. He is too high up on his horse.

Edit: You could try a charged heavy attack instead.

That is correct. A charged heavy attack should do some decent damage to him at least.

Man I'm level 19 with a greatsword (started naken) and it's been rough :D Getting one-shot by him sucks.

The first Tree Sentinel is there to show you that if you're getting stuck, you can keep moving forward and come back later when you're stronger.

Vigor is your most important stat. I always prioritize getting it to 25-30 asap. By endgame 50-60 depending on the build.

In my blind run, I too started as a Wretch. It's the best class to play, albeit incredibly challenging, but you learn to appreciate every bit of gear you acquire.

Yeah I didn't face him right as I started (well.. I tried a couple times hehe). Went around exploring a bit; now I feel like I can beat him. I've gotten him down to about 30% health but almost everytime I get one of his one-shot attacks haha

Maybe I'll wait a bit more to find better gear. Still haven't found armor beyond a helmet and some hand wraps.

Thanks for explaining the mechanic.

That's fair. Keep at it and you'll definitely beat him.

For early armor, I like to farm the Godrick Soldiers/Knights on my way to the Gatefront Site of Grace, and the ones near there. The Godrick Armor set is quite good early on.

You could also buy the Chainmail set from Kale too, if you don't want to farm gear so early on.

Happy to help, good luck! :praisesun:
