Can't decide if I should start a new save or continue from 2 years ago...
I last played the game around June in 2022 with exactly 100 hours in the game by that point. I was planning to finish it eventually but forgot about it for other games and now I've reinstalled it and want to finish it before the DLC comes out.

Problem is coming back to an RPG game like this after almost 2 years makes it hard to remember where I was going last time or where I've already been and where I'm at with all my quests and things. Especially since the game doesn't have a quest journal or anything to track that stuff.

Starting a fresh save can be fun and getting to try out a different build, but I worry I'll get bored doing all the things I've already done and constantly thinking about my other save where I'm already past it all, I'll probably rush through it more instead of wanting to explore as much as my first playthrough and miss things.

was that your only save game? if it was, you could probably check your achievements to see which bosses you killed and see how far you were into the main story of the game. and also see which optional bosses you killed already and continue from there.

but some of those side quests would definitely be hard to track and figure out your progress

You won't get bored making a new char, I did just what you did, I had a lvl 200 Knight Vagabond, then when DLC was announced, booted game back up, plated my knight for a while, but then made a new char, then another, got back into the game in a big way. I made a new char for incantations, and now I have a thief char.

True but not sure what build I would go for I did intelligence mage on my first save but I haven't beaten the final boss yet.

If it were me, I would start a new save. It's still quite fun to explore around even in areas you've been through before, and if it's been a couple of years you probably aren't going to remember many details. You probably didn't find close to all of the secrets or dungeons on your first playthrough, even in the areas you completed. Heck, after about five playthroughs I've still found some new stuff I missed.

Gotta say going through the early area again at a low level is a pretty tough grind when you remember where main things are. I pretty much rushed to the third grace avoiding most enemies to get the horse and leveling up and now it's hard to think where I should go to level up faster but also wanna go for places I remember to progress.

Use your old save. It remmebered your progress for a reason.

I loaded back into my old save but I really have no clue where I should be going. I spawned in Caelid, I'm level 91 and I currently have 3 runes.

Can anyone tell me where I need to go next? Here's screenshots of my map I've discovered so far: https://imgur.com/a/vY5CahA

Looks like Leyendell next, the capital with the giant tree. After defeating the boss of that area you can start to access some of the northern areas.

Starting fresh is the better option.

Starting fresh probably better.
Will help you get back into the swing of things too.

Stick to a single character and do NGs. With this you will get acces to items/spells designed for high RL characters, watch all endings and literally do whatever you want with the game.

Thanks for all your suggestions! I did try to start fresh and going with a different build but after like an hour I just found myself rushing through all the areas I remember vaguely enough from the past and just bee-lining for the sites of grace I remember locations of etc instead of taking my time enjoying the game and exploring everything which is what I enjoyed so much in the first playthrough. I spent 100 hours to get to level 91 and Mt Gelmir during my first run until I stopped because I made sure I didn't miss anything and checked everywhere for secrets. I don't want to spend another 100 hours exploring all the same things again, constantly remembering them after getting there and going "oh yeah now I remember this place" all the time and I doubt I would ever have the patience to re explore everything as thoroughly and I would definitely miss things I didn't miss on my first run.

So I decided to get back into my old save and I'm now focusing on Mt Gelmir area. I went and killed the random monster that spawns after killing the burning zombie followed by the Ulcerated Tree Spirit by the Erdtree there (had to get help from a summon for that one lol) and then I managed to go to the manor and do the first Volcano Manor quest. Now I can go back to exploring every nook and cranny since it's not all areas I've been through before and I also used a mod on Nexus to check where I was at with all my NPC quests! I now know I still need to kill the Baleful Shadow for Ranni for example.
