ELDEN RING
Are the other souls games this long?
Curious to try the other games, but not sure if I got the patience for another 100+ hour journey. Been doing a replay of elden ring in preperation for the dlc, but I started exploring Caelid and I'm already feeling the burnout.

No, not even close.
I've also played DS1 and DS3. Each of these games only took half as long to complete as Elden Ring. I enjoyed DS3 much more than DS1.
DS3 main path is really short. DS2 main path is fairly long because iirc there are almost no optional areas (and the ones that are, most you still have to pass through them and don't know that they're largely optional). All 3 are about the same if you factor in all areas and DLC.
no, they are all like 30 hours
Here are my times for 1st time seeing end screen in 3 games:

DS3 -> 22h

Sekiro -> 45h Sekiro mainly got longer than DS3 because once you return to the castle about 20h into the game it gets so freaking deadly and i also needed 6h to kill isshin :)

Elden Ring -> 76h

(still need to try the Dark Souls series, Elden Ring is from first Fromsoft game)

The open world doesn't work at all, in my opinion.

I'd rather they had stuck with the Dark Souls formula for Elden Ring.
Imagine if you had just finished with Gothrick's castle and you take an elevator into Radahn's castle.

That's more on how the level-design is like for the Dark Souls series. With the player having to actually think between rooms and encounters.

In Elden Ring, you pick a direction and run in it to safety. Detracts a lot from the experience.

Some might say the open world freedom adds to the experience. I'm one of those. I like Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Sekiro, but Elden Ring is my favorite by far for precisely the same reasons that you think don't "work at all."
