Semi-hot take: Morgott is the best Fromsoftware boss to date

I dunno if this is really that unpopular of an opinion, but I really think Morgott is the pinnacle of From's boss design. For a long time, Gael used to hold that spot for me as i'm sure it still does for many others. But over the last couple months, as i've fought him more, i've come to realize how awesome the omen boi is.

Starting off with the fight itself, it's really fun. His combos and positioning requirements are extremely fun and satisfying to learn. Especially in the second phase where you have to watch your positioning much more to avoid the curse-geysers when he hits the ground. Its one of the fights in this game that truly feels like a dance, with neither character stopping their attacks and just keep fighting until somebody dies. The music is also a banger when you listen to it more closely.

As for the story/lore, it's tragic and beautiful at the same time. He was locked away under the capital just for being an omen, but after the shattering he held no ill will towards the Erdtree, instead giving everything to protect it and Leyndell. He's kinda like Gwyndolin from dark souls if he wasn't a femboy, y'know? I honestly think he's the only still heroic demigod besides maybe Miquella. I also really like the concept of him being the first boss, showing up in stormveil castle as your #1 hater trying to protect his lil cousin Godrick so he can prevent your punk ass from reaching the Erdtree. All i wish was that all his cut content didn't get cut, like the Shanehaight quest or the idea of the Night's Cavalry hunting you around the lands between.

Also, mini take before i head out: Fortissax is the best dragon boss. As much as i love Midir and Sinh, Fortissax probably takes the cake just based on how awesome he is.

Of all FromSoft bosses my favourite is probably Dancer of the Boreal Valley. For just Elden Ring, I think Radahn or Placidusax.

Best boss ever? That's s tough metric(s) to pin down. Malenia brought the community together around a boss unlike any before and birthed a celebrity named letMeSoloHer. That's a badge to say the very least.

My favorite ever is Quelaag, low level with a club. She was the first boss I challenged myself to race straight to and really figure out. And she's hot af in a metal album kinda way.

Regarding the Golden shill... I guess? I kinda get it, like, your words and sentences make sense in my ape brain but that does not align with my philosophies or values.

Midir is still my boi but I'll go after fortisaxx some mo'

Wow, Quelaag? Thats an interesting one, i don't think i've met someone who's favorite boss is her. I can't blame ya tho. Her CHEST moveset is fun, i really like how her CHEST fight is kinda a roadblock to the next part of the game, shes also got some pretty interesting CHEST lore. Overall great CHEST boss!

I just love the whole idea of the Festival, and getting to charge into battle alongside a group of allies is such a unique experience in FromSoft games.

He's specifically designed to counter souls players. They do some version of this every game, and Margit/Morgott managed to make it awesome instead of an extra step to learn (eg needing to level up the dodgeroll in dks2). The omens are also just really good fights in general, only times in these games I've struggled and found a way to cheese a boss, and then let them kill me bc I was having fun and wanted to win normally.

None of the ER dragons are as good as Midir imo. They finally managed to break the boring anklechopping fighting-with-the-camera strats with Midir, and seemingly totally forgot how to in ER. It's because ER wants you to actually use the bajillion ranged options every build has tbf, but dying in melee a couple times and then groaning and tossing boulders at the dragon's head until it dies felt lame to me.
