I've never been that into curved greatswords tbh. From what I've watched of Rax's playthrough it seems like it's mainly the special attack that's OP.
Maybe it's also good b/c somber stones are easier to get early game if you know where to look, but I'm still playing mostly blind so idk. I hope I can still buy from that blacksmith guy. I advanced that questline (which is one of the few things I looked up b/c I had no idea where to go)
not even remotely close. scales way harder, easier to upgrade, will carry you through multiple NG cycles. While drake was the noob trap of DS the fang is pretty much only a noob trap in pvp where countless people have faced it and parry the art. For PvE its a beast, probably top 10 weapons in the game as we have it.
Haven't found anything amazing tbh. There's a spell that requires 36 int (sold by the lady in the starting area). Then there's staves that have better scaling with high int. Also one that requires high INT. It's mainly to meet requirements, but I'm playing mostly blind so I don't know exactly what's out there. I'll prob just stop at 36.
Aside from Vigor, I've also considered raising STR if I find a really good shield. There's also great spears that require higher str, but none seemed that great at first glance. My claws are heavy so they have B str scaling. Was originally going int/dex with this char, but didn't expect to be using a shield.
Intelligence in this game is an all-or-nothing (well, almost nothing) stat. While Scholar's Armament... exists, I guess, Faith is the much better choice if you want to do a hybrid physical/caster. With Int you simply want to min-max your Int to insane levels and use an Int-scaling Ash of War or weapon while avoiding all physical levels. There aren't a ton of these in Limgrave but Gravitas will be sufficient to tide you over.
It's the weapon that keeps on giving.
