Is Bloodhound Fang really that good?
I've been playing mostly blind, but recently I started Rax's playthrough and saw him using it. The special looks pretty cool and does a lot of damage. I'm not against trying it myself, but I have to put 3 points into DEX.

I would also kind of like to find something on my own, but none of the weapons I've tried have felt that good. I have 20 str/14 dex and around 30/30 INT and vigor. I'm using lance with a shield or dual wielding claws depending on the circumstance.

I know I could just look at the wiki and find the best weapons for my build or look up the most OP weapons and build around them. Like I said, I'm trying to play blind. The only reason I started watching RAx i because I had given up on finishing Elden Ring, but watching him made me want to play again.

i feel like most of the weapons with the same moveset as the bloodhound fang are above average to have but not the best

I've never been that into curved greatswords tbh. From what I've watched of Rax's playthrough it seems like it's mainly the special attack that's OP.

Maybe it's also good b/c somber stones are easier to get early game if you know where to look, but I'm still playing mostly blind so idk. I hope I can still buy from that blacksmith guy. I advanced that questline (which is one of the few things I looked up b/c I had no idea where to go)

Yes it is really that good. It has very high AR, bleed, i frames that allow you to slip right through enemy attacks if you time it well, is buffable and what others forgot to mention it also buffs jump attacks which means you can pair it with raptors black feathers and claw talisman for a triple jump attack buff.

the L2 attack kinda sucks and it uses 1hand scaling when you use it

It's the Drake Sword of ER.

not even remotely close. scales way harder, easier to upgrade, will carry you through multiple NG cycles. While drake was the noob trap of DS the fang is pretty much only a noob trap in pvp where countless people have faced it and parry the art. For PvE its a beast, probably top 10 weapons in the game as we have it.

yes, bloodhound fang is really good. Radahn's helm gives it +25% AR, and you dont need to level vigor because the skill gives infinite eye-frames. It's always impressive to see a host use it as a dedicated sunbro

What are you using the INT investment for? Also the respec item isnt super common, but you can get your hands on one pretty early and theres enough to experiment for sure.

Yes, it really is.

Haven't found anything amazing tbh. There's a spell that requires 36 int (sold by the lady in the starting area). Then there's staves that have better scaling with high int. Also one that requires high INT. It's mainly to meet requirements, but I'm playing mostly blind so I don't know exactly what's out there. I'll prob just stop at 36.

Aside from Vigor, I've also considered raising STR if I find a really good shield. There's also great spears that require higher str, but none seemed that great at first glance. My claws are heavy so they have B str scaling. Was originally going int/dex with this char, but didn't expect to be using a shield.

There are tons of video montages of people flying off cliffs after using the Ash of War. I find it to be the easiest thing to parry in the entire game. If you don't mind buffing it with bloodflame then it does pretty good damage.

Intelligence in this game is an all-or-nothing (well, almost nothing) stat. While Scholar's Armament... exists, I guess, Faith is the much better choice if you want to do a hybrid physical/caster. With Int you simply want to min-max your Int to insane levels and use an Int-scaling Ash of War or weapon while avoiding all physical levels. There aren't a ton of these in Limgrave but Gravitas will be sufficient to tide you over.

Bloodhound Fang is a quality weapon that works, in a game where Quality weapons don't work. It has innate bleed, is buffable, it's long for it's class, it boost jumps attacks & you can acquire in 10 mins of starting a new game. Take a side trip and you don't even need to fight the boss, get a somber for not fighting & unlock the 1/4 AoW FP reduce Talisman for purchase.

It's the weapon that keeps on giving.
