Why is the mimic tear in the game?
Or atleast why isn't its stats scaled down? why is there one single item that can change the entire difficulty of the game from playing to story mode? all other ashes are fine ranging from distractions to actually helpful minions and then the mimic just blows them all outta the water, hell the endgame bosses probably had to be scaled up to compete with the addition of the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ mimic.

and i'm here telling you just because it's one item it doesn't make it the only thing that can turn this game into a walk in the park

you made up your own rule of ''it's fine if it's multiple things but I cannot accept it if it's one item!!'' and are expecting everybody to follow it, not how it works
bro just move on, HOW did you figure i was expecting everyone to play by my rules? i said why is it in the game? thats a question. go touch grass, talk to some irl people and maybe you'll realise not everyones your enemy.
touch grass deployed; argument destroyed

By the fact that you're here arguing that the mimic is the one thing that's unacceptable and you're throwing tantrums at people that tell you it's not the only thing that makes the game easy lol
Lots of people are casual gamers and don't want to spend hours mastering every move sequence of every boss. I'm a casual and I've only used Mimic after spending a reasonable amount of time trying to beat the boss without it first. Over time I've used it less and less, I'm on NG+3 and I'm at Malenia and realized I literally forgot Mimic and summons exist, I haven't needed it which implies some improvement. So it's a tool to use as needed, some need it more than others, we're not all the same age with the same amount of experience.

Mimic Tear is no more or less effective against bosses than the NPC summons were in the previous games.

I'll say it again.

Solaire was just as effective against Gwyn then as the Mimic Tear is against Malenia now.

It's all relative.

Bosses are tuned in general for a summon to potentially be there, not specifically the Mimic Tear.

People develop this perception that the Mimic Tear is overpowered because, frankly, they themselves just haven't gotten gud yet to such a degree where they can move away from it.

And I say that with kindness.

Too many people play this game without ever using ANY summon for there to be a strong argument that the bosses are tuned specifically for the Mimic Tear.

The Mimic Tear, and summons in general, are there to make the game easy.

If they're succeeding in that, then they're doing their job.

If you can't play without them -- then it's likely a matter of your skill still developing.
bud your saltyness is showing

Uh.......what am I salty about, exactly?

"summons the devs put in previous games were to account for those specific difficulties you couldn't bring any of them along with you"

You couldn't bring them along with you because you didn't need to. There was a specific summon for nearly every boss.

And as a result, they performed with exactly as much effectiveness for that boss as the mimic tear does for the bosses in Elden Ring.

Do you understand what I'm talking about when I say it's all relative?

The core function of summons has not changed between these games, nor has their impact.

"in elden ring alone the late game bosses leave little to no reprieve because they are designed with the idea that the player has some other meat shield to create those moments of reprieve."

So then how are people finding plenty of moments of reprieve without using the "meatshield?"

The way you talk about these end game bosses is EXACTLY the way new players talk about Gwyn when they feel like the only way to win is to summon Solaire.

Again, it's all relative.

Exactly.

Mimic Tear is performing the same role all other summons have performed in the past and does so with the same effectiveness, relative to the game in question.

The player improves, moves away from the "easy mode." Natural progression of skill through practice.

thats what came off as salty to me but if not my bad
as for summons for nearly every boss idk about ds1&2 but ds3 sure as ♥♥♥♥ didn't have summons coming outta the ass, i could've used one for pontiff or midir dark eater
"So then how are people finding plenty of moments of reprieve without using the "meatshield?"" brother i'd love to ♥♥♥♥♥♥ know for malikith. the best way i've seen for half of them is hoping rng is on your side and they dont whip out their op moves 5 times in a row.

says the guy spamming insults and raging just because someone said the mimic isn't the only thing that makes the game easy, so constructive

also you keep repeating the ''projecting'' buzzword, what am I ''projecting''? do you even know what it means?

Every souls game pretty much had NPC summons for every boss.
Even Pontiff and Midir had NPC summons.

And ER bosses aren't even all that hard once you figure out their moveset. Same with every souls game.

Mimic Tear and ever other spirit ash summon is there to make the game easier. That's it. And considering they trivialize the game I'd say they definitely did NOT develop the late-game areas and bosses with them in mind. They can all be OP considering all you need them to do is pull aggro so you can smash attack on bosses.
What’s new though?

The series always had multiple ways to pass forward including ez-mode.

Coop is the prime one and was there from the beginning further intensified by addition of overleveled phantoms at some point.

On that background mimic is barely noticeable.

I wasn’t salty. I was speaking about how a lesser skilled player’s perception of the game will naturally change as they improve.
Pontiff is a good example.

I raged at him. Then I practiced. Then I got gud. Now I love him and have for years.

It really comes down to studying patterns and recognizing them. RNG plays a part for sure, but bosses tend to reliably follow one move with another.

So you pick up on that.

Maliketh for example begins phase two just about EVERY time with the same jump slash.

After the cutscene, the game positions you roughly the same distance way from him.

So you combine those two points of knowledge aaaaannd…..back up a step or two and watch him completely whiff. Lol

Thus opening him up in a major way.

Seriously. Watch your favorite souls streamer like Gino or something. Watch what they do. They’ll either take a step back or they’ll run forward, knowing that Maliketh is gonna jump over them.

So that’s how you find those moments. You gotta study patterns.
