Tips for Astel
First, I DO NOT WANT CO-OP HELP. But thanks for offering. I want to get better at helping others.

The details: dual wielding great hammers with a focus on timing and spacing and with jump attacks boosted. There are like two attacks that do huge aoe and nuke me. My goal is to do this almost no-hit.

What do I look for, where is my target zone, and any other suggestions are appreciated.

Stay in front of the head.
Hit once or twice and be on constant alert so you can back off if needed.
Don't linger too long under boss or too close to its head.

When it does meteor attack run to the rear and hit it.
After that get back in front of its head.

Melee with slow weapons is probably hardest way to play against this boss.
You will not have many clean opportunities if you want to avoid hits.

Some ranged Ash of War like Sacred Blade could be useful.
Rot is helpful as well if you can inflict it.

The laser beam is pretty much on a timer.
Tail whips follow laser beam.
Jump attack; make space.
No combos; give a split second to assess Astel's next move.

Thanks!

You're saying to run to this things butt when meteors rain? This is one of the hardest moves for me to handle.

You can easily avoid it by rolling to left or right but
if you are not too far away it is best to sprint and roll towards its rear.

It is reasonably safe and you have opportunity for some free hits or to buff yourself.
It is tricky boss for melee users for sure.

You can roll through the beginning and end of the large gravity AoE for a free punish. Might be able to do it more easily with Raptors of the Mist, if you can spare the skill slot.

The smaller, triple AoEs can also be rolled, but you need to time your first roll early so that your next two rolls are still within i-frames to avoid damage.

Quadruple AoE attack can sort of be spun at close range so you can run behind Astel (sort of like Malenia's Waterforwl Dance), but might be problematic for co-op since your teammates can accidentally body-block you.

All of the above is suggested if you want to keep close to Astel. If you don't care, just run away lol.

And if you are targeted by Meteorite of Astel, just roll the three guaranteed meteors when at range. Otherwise, just run behind Astel as others suggested.
