Legitimately don't know how to avoid one of Commander Gaius's attacks
For the record, I'm fighting this one on Torrent, because I can't even begin to imagine trying to do the fight on foot.

Every attack Gaius has I've been able to avoid by one method or another, but there is one attack he uses that I legitimately do not understand how to avoid getting hit by.

It's the one during Phase 2 where he stabs his weapon into the ground and causes a bunch of purple spikes to spawn under you that hit you in rapid succession.

You can't outrun it. You can't jump over it. I'm almost certain you can't roll through it since it hits you multiple times.

I have only managed to survive the attack once, and I STILL got hit by it. I have NEVER been able to fully avoid it.

How do you deal with it???

Wow, I don't even recognized the move you just mentioned. I only remember the one where he flies into the air spinning like a moron and charges down creating a wave of purple magic to kill you. I love that move, easy to dodge, allows me to screw him over.

Then there is the one where he would suddenly float slightly above ground and charges at you. This one is a little more dangerous which can be dodge if you timed it well. Sometimes panic dodge will do it.

I generally dies before he made the move you just described. When I did well, I probably killed him before he did that move. No chance of seeing it I suppose.

I have no idea either, I resorted to just dodging everything else and accepting that I have to eat that one.

I had this problem with a lot of bosses in the DLC, some of the attacks are impossibly hard to read. Metyr for example has that weird ball AoE of which I just don't understand what part of the animation is supposed to be the tell for when the second explosion will occur.

Since everyone keeps saying bosses aren't that hard, if someone has an answer, please come forward.

You don't. It's one of those moments where they want you to bring gear and stats to just tank it. They put those in the DLC a lot

Took me around 13 attempts to take him out (fought him on food which was kinda stupid tbh) and I never even saw this attack once.
Honestly f*** this guy and his broken asf hitboxes!

I only saw him do it while mounted, I think it's because he checks for a certain range so when you're next to him all the time he doesn't do it.

I'm surprised anyone isn't next to him all the time considering he's one of the many bosses that sets his tip upon the fog wall the second you start walking through it, with a multi hitting charging attack too ofc, just for good measure!

Boss fights where you can use fight on horses are always a bait.
The only time using horse in fights is useful is to chase after fire giant when he rolls 100 miles away and for sprinting towards a dragon to gap close and jump off and start melee them when they doing fire breath.
You're damage on horseback is probably terrible and will make you drag out the boss longer than needed giving the boss more time to kill you.not to mention you dont want to have to waste your flasks reviving horse when boss kills it.

Oh yeah that could be very well possible that he only does that when you mount Torrent.
I found his charge attack to be absolute garbage.
The hitboxes on that thing are ridiculous.

Greatswords absolutely dominate on horseback esp against dragons they can barely keep up enough to hit torrent in the first place.

If there is one thing I wish they're remove it's the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ confirm dialogue for reviving my horse. It's ONE SINGLE FLASK. They never ask me for confirmation when I'm about to accidentally throw a rare-er item either...

You just sprint sideways. Yeah...only advice I can give. Make sure to sprint exactly side ways. lock onto him. Then move that joysticks as far left as you can. Spam sprint. You should be golden. At least I was and I dodged that ability a dozen times doing that.

Fighting on foot is way easier than fighting on torrent for that fight. The rolls are way more consistent (imo). Every move Gaius does has a consistent dodge window that you just need to find by experimenting a bit. For majority of Gaius' moves that window is actually quite easily telegraphed to the player.

watch a no hit and look how they do it
joey Jun 27, 2024 @ 12:39pm
i had no idea you can fight him on horseback. i always assume only field bosses let you use the horse. you can't use the horse throughout the entire dungeon and then randomly you can use it at the boss. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING
