I am glad fromsoftware is getting their game review bombed for difficulty.
I'm a casual, I am also better at FPS games because thats what i grew up on. When i first bought ER i was so excited because people said it was easier that dark souls but I was never able to beat much beyond that little camp of knights at the beginning zone and carriages with some weapons in them to pick up. FromSoftware should've added difficulty levels like literally any other RPG game because not everyone wants to take their games seriously and now they've taken a step too far and even the pro xd rawr gamers of youtube are struggling. I know people are going to hate on this take and that's fine but the reality is gaming shouldn't have to be as stressful as a job, I shouldn't have to deal with trolls spamming rivers because i want to play with my friend. A game shouldn't be so frustrating to play that i pushed my thumb-sticks though the controller board trying to kill some of the very first bosses(not talking about the mounted knight in the beginning zone). I hope Fromsoftware learns a valuable lesson in this and makes their games for a wider audience in the future.

Ps. This isn’t intended as bait, contrary to what you think. It’s interesting how people cant comprehend a different viewpoint and therefore must invalidate it by calling it bait lest they come to terms with reality or agree to disagree like adults. Typical Steam forums moment

This game has difficulty options, it is called using spirit ashes and not using spirit ashes. You are free to choose this for each fight, doesn't that sound crazy?
Anyway, considering this is literally something you unlock at the start, I have to say this looks a lot like bait

And yes, the game can be trivialised by just using tools that it gives you like summons, ashes, over-levelling, using magic.

Similar, I know that ER DLC is way over my level - I just wont play it, but would never yell at developer to make it easier.
I never said to make it easier. Just add easy normal and hard and u pick one when you start a save. LIKE ANY OTHER GAME. that doesn't change how YOU play the game, it gives you more power as the end user of the product and FS would sell more titles. its a win win for everyone

I think this is more due to more and more people coming into these games, not much of a generation thing yk
And it is indeed a generation thing.
Before good chunk of people that played Dark Souls and Demon Souls were people that were already adults that played games in the 80s and 90s and now at ER there is an influx of people that never played any of the 80s and 90s games or that find these to have bad design because of the difficulty (goes figure).

It is similar to simracing, before simulators were known to be harder than the other racing games because it demand more in-lline with real life driving techniques and dont allow Mario Kart or NFS driving style to work and.. guess what happen from time to time at ssimulator forums?
"Why game so hard?"
"Why my car wont turn?"
"Why so many cheaters online with fast times while I drive the car on the limit and am seconds off these cheaters times?"
And so on. . . it is a generation thing and the genres becoming more popular therefore a wider audience ppurchase and the results shows, people that expect a harder game to not be that hard or to play exactly like they play other games and get the same results :steamfacepalm:

but I don't want to shoehorned into playing a certain way because my hands cant hit keys as fast as normal people. I want to be able to play like everyone else. if perfect parry windows were longer in a metaphorical easy mode for example that alone would make a big difference.

Look, I understand what you are saying, and please don't take this as being "elitist", or "gate keeping" but if my legs dont move fast enough - I simply wont run the marathon.
Gaming market is full of games for everybody, the beauty of DS is the difficulty.

i summon a friend and a troll spamming rivers ruins both our naked low level days. i install a mod to make thing easier and get a ban from FS. there's just no way to have fun in this game as a casual gamer without being forced into certain ways of playing. And you have slog though the frustrating game-play to even unlock those easier ways of playing.

people who's legs don't work still have marathons in wheel chairs. people who's legs don't work fast enough can still run and finish a marathon, they just wont win

Difficult games (eg- ER, DS etc) add spice to the gaming genre, if every game will have same core mechanics, wouldn't it will be the decay of diversity, which gaming as a medium provide.

If your hands can not hit the keys as fast as other people, the options are:
1 - use earlier cues as trigger for your key inputs (so not the exact same cues others use)
2 - use other method or approach (like, parry is not the only way even at Sekiro, even tho there it is far easier than in any Souls or souls-like game I ever played)
3 - use more of the ingame tools to give you more leniency (there are several thiings that allow the player to have leniency levels and thaat excluding spirit ashes and summons)
4 - if anything (like refusing to play other style with other method or approach and not using different cues) play other game., not all games have to be for everyone.

Because it is not a game for a casual player. You are a fish that keeps trying to climb the tree. You hate it, you know you are not supposed to climb trees, but instead of going back into the river you suggest to just throw the whole tree down the stream. Disregarding the needs of birds living on its branches.

Because it is not a game for a casual player. You are a fish that keeps trying to climb the tree. You hate it, you know you are not supposed to climb trees, but instead of going back into the river you suggest to just throw the whole tree down the stream. That is quite a comparison that fits perfectly.
Fish that wants to go up a tree but because fish can not birds and other animals that need a tree standing up with its roots buried on the ground can not have it because "fish must have the same tree laying on the water",
